“Both Teams Don’t Like Us…It Will Be War Either Way” — Carleton Ravens March Forward to Wilson Cup Championship

TORONTO,ON–The Lakehead Thunderwolves could not land a rock in the ocean against the Carleton Ravens, shooting a miserable 25% from the field and falling 72-51 to the #1 team in the nation.

The Thunderbay contingent was without their leading scorer Ryan Thomson, on the injured list, spotted on crutches; and on this night, Lakehead needed any offence that they could get.

Credit the Ravens stifling defence and team communication for a portion of Lakehead’s struggles, however some of it was simply due to a bad shooting night.

Following the Carleton victory, the Ravens patiently awaited their OUA finals matchup which would come against the winner between Windsor and Ottawa. Either scenario would serve up excitement as Windsor is the only team that have tasted victory against CU this season, while city rival Ottawa recently took Dave Smart’s crew to a triple overtime thriller.

After asking for a preference, it seemed that Phil Scrubb and the Ravens are ready for any opponent.

“It doesn’t really matter; obviously we’d like to play Windsor just because they beat us, but Ottawa would be a great game too…they hate us and they really want to beat us too,” Scrubb told NPH.

“Both teams don’t like us…it will be war either way,” said Tyson Hinz who posted 14 points and nine rebounds in the victory over Lakehead.

Carleton did not shoot particularly well either [40% FG] but locked up the Thunderwolves for only 16 first half points. As a collective, CU was not satisfied with their efforts as multiple players alluded to playing with a lack of confidence.

“Coach Smart talked about confidence and toughness, we have to bring it…if we bring those two things we will be fine, but if we don’t it will be obvious because both those teams want to kill us,” explained Hinz.

“If we show passion, there aren’t many teams that can beat us.”

Other key contributors included Clinton Springer-Williams who registered a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds while OUA-West defensive player of the year Thomas Scrubb added 11 points.

The Ottawa Gee-Gees would go on to defeat Windsor and advance to the Wilson Cup championship game, while locking up a spot in the CIS Final 8.

In other words, #1-Ranked Carleton will now take on #3 Ottawa for bragging rights and ultimately to hoist the trophy signifying Ontario supremacy.
