Myck Kabongo & team take home $2M prize from The Basketball Tournament

Myck Kabongo is making sure he’s staying paid, taking home the $2 million grand prize from The Basketball Tournament with his Overseas Elite team, defeating Team Colorado 77-72. Overseas Elite is the first team to win the grand prize, which is split between the entire roster, in back-to-back years.

Kabongo, a NPH Showcase Instructor, has been an integral part of both championship teams and personally took home $118,000 for his efforts. He contributed nine points in 24 minutes, running the point for Overseas for the most part.

Overseas Elite were down by at much as 20 in the first half of the final, but scraped their way back into the game to finish the half down by a much more manageable 10 points. In the second half, Overseas took over with help from Tournament MVP Kyle Fogg’s 17 points and DJ Kennedy‘s 18 points and 8 rebounds.

Team Colorado, which is made up of University of Colorado alum, was led by Marcus Hall’s 24 points, but Hall’s foul trouble forced him onto the bench for longer than he would have liked as Overseas made their comeback.

Team Overseas is now 13-0 at TBT over the past two years and have collected $3 million in prize money from the single-elimination tournament, which was aired live on ESPN. Portland Trail Blazer CJ McCollum acted as a team sponsor, or booster, as his brother Errick is part of the squad. McCollum was obviously happy with the result, and got a taste of the GM life with the win.
