High School basketball supremacy in the United States belongs to the defending champions of Dick’s National High School Tournament, Montverde Academy. One Canadian gets to be a part of this level of excellence, that would be Chris Egi, NorthPoleHoops #2-ranked prospect in the Canadian class of 2014.

Montverde’s stars Ben Simmons (LSU Tigers commit) who won tournament MVP and D’Angelo Russel (Ohio State Buckeyes) carried the Florida based academy, throughout the first half and both finished with double digit points and rebounds.

Chris Egi’s defensive efforts in the fourth quarter came with the ultimate reward. All four blocks recorded for Egi came in the final frame as Oak Hill was edged out 71-62 despite a last spurt of scoring from Cody Martin and Terrence Phillips.

Coach Kevin Boyle gave praise to Egi for his performance at Madison Square Garden.

“Ben and Chris Egi’s ability to block shots. I think Chris was really big today, he played a big role and made some big blocks. You never know how people are going to react on the big stage.”

By now, this is a name that Canadian basketball fans are well familiar with. He’s made an impact on every team that he’s played on by building a reputation as a shot blocker and providing energy for a full game.

Expect Egi to have an immediate impact, particularly on the defensive end by blocking / altering shots an rebounding on both ends.

  • Ben Simmons – 24 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists
  • D’Angelo Russell – 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assist and 4 steals
  • Chris Egi – 8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 4 blocks

Congratulations to Coach Boyle and Montverde Academy on their 2014 Dick’s National High School Championship.
