Lareldo Dixion, Christian Hewiitt Power #2 FHC Past Holy Trinity, St. Mike’s Rematch is Set!
WINDSOR,ON–Holy Trinity against Father Henry Carr was the most anticipated game at OFSAA up until this point. HT was missing a major piece for a majority of the game, with Trevon McNeil on the bench after going knee-to-knee with an opponent in the quarter final game against St. Edmund Campion. FHC had a very strong second half and took a 16 point win, 62-46.
The Crusaders showed their depth in this game with a well balanced score sheet and buckets coming in from all angles.
Moreover, Lareldo Dixon made it difficult for guys to get in the lane and finish at the basket with his length and shot blocking ability. Offensively he was very assertive to the rim and contributed in a big way.
This didn’t stop recent Lakehead commit, Nolan Mackenzie from sneaking into cracks and finishing tough shots. The NPH team has been following the high school career of Mackenzie and has watched him develop his core strength and athleticism along with a much improved jump shot. Mackenzie finished the game with 14 points in his final game in a high school uniform.
Next up for the Titans is 2015 guard Lucas Orlita, who showed tremendous confidence with Titans star McNeil on the bench, putting in 14 points off of turnaround jumpers and shots from beyond the arc.
When FHC realized how long McNeil had been on the bench they knew they needed to take advantage and build upon their lead.
Christian Hewitt was the man in the third quarter who would help extend it initially, going 4/5 from deep; while on the defensive end, Brendon Chevannes locked down Titan ball handlers and caused havoc for whoever brought the ball up.
The fourth quarter was all Crusader basketball as they left a comfortable lead throughout the fourth and could smell the finals against St. Michael’s College approaching.
“These guys know that every game gets tougher, and tomorrow is going to be tougher, tomorrow is going to be a war, we got to get better every game if we have any chance of winning,” explained Head Coach Paul Melnik of the Crusaders.
FHC’s only loss of the season was at the hands of St. Mike’s at their home tournament in January while Malcolm Duvivier was out of commission. Duvivier is healthy and back in the line up, playing like a man possessed.
“It’s the only blemish on our record, and we would rather play St. Mike’s than anyone else in the world, it’s about redemption,” continued Melnik.
