D’Youville picks up Campion Showdown Championship!

BRAMPTON, ON–D’Youville is on a roll as the Panthers defeated a tough Cameron Heights Team 75-66 to capture the Campion Showdown championship!

Before we dive into D’Youville’s victory, lets talk about Cameron Heights…a team out of Kitchener, Ontario that faught hard until the last second of every game.

“We underestimated them going into our game, but you have to give them credit, they play hard,” explained Campion Head Coach Omar Miles, in their quarter final loss to Cameron Heights.

Josiah Riley Earns MVP Honours

Lead by a dynamic 1-2 punch composed of Vedran Dmitrovic and 6’6 Vlad Matovic the Golden Gaels ‘upset” Campion and battled all game against a deeper and well organized team in D’Youville.

Dmitrovic & Matovic registered 21 and 14 points in the loss.

Now let’s talk about D’Youville — a team with all the necessary pieces to make a serious run at an OFSAA title.

As outline in my article from this week the Panthers have some serious depth. In this specific game, it was Rayon Miller & Josiah Riley that lead with offensive production– Miller posting a team-high 18 points, and Riley chipping in with 14 including a massive one hand jam!

However, it was the team defense and offensive execution that allowed for D’Youville to maintain the lead every time Cameron Heights made a run.

“We have to run the offense that coach has for us. When we do run the offense and move the ball, we get easy baskets and when we don’t, that’s when we pick up turnovers,” Riley told NPH.

Riley picked up tournament MVP honours, while Rayon Miller and Addy Ogunye earned all-star selections in the championship win.

In the meantime, in Hamilton, NPH #1-Ranked Father Henry Carr continued to roll, taking the Mark Walton Championship.

“I think we can compete with Henry Carr. In their tournament, we lost focus when things got loud. We came into a deficit we couldn’t come back from.”

D’Youville currently does not have a spot in the NPH National Rankings, something that will have to change in the Second Release coming in January as they have showed time and time again, they can beat and compete with the best.
