Jameson Tipping Explodes For 32 & 13 In Brock Victory Over Queen’s

ST. CATHERINE’S, ON–Much has been said about the youth of the Queen’s Gaels and how it would translate onto the floor. Playing against an older and more physically dominating Brock Badgers, the Gaels showed no fear and attacked the basket one possession after the other.
On the defensive end there was no match for Jameson Tipping who poured in 32 points and 13 rebounds while going 54% from the field for the Badgers. After a consistent and feisty effort, Queen’s would fall by a score of 92-79 in their final game at the RBC Classic.
Brock looks like it should finish among the top teams in the OUA with a roster that has every position covered and solid talent at each spot. On the other hand, there are some improvements that need to be made from a communication standpoint and team mentality. They are a team that is currently having difficulties closing out games and leaving no room for comebacks.
In tonight’s game, a mirage of threes came in the fourth quarter from Gaels’ PG Mark Paclibar that kept them in it until about the two-minute mark where they were forced to foul and put the Badgers on the line.
The young group was instructed to play heavy on ball defense and they did that with a load of intensity. Queens finished with 14 steals as a team but also had a tonne of turnovers because of an inability to control their pace and speed.
Both Mackenzie Simpson and Greg Faulkner contributed and took control of the game at times for the Gaels. As “veterans,” it’s on them to provide vocal leadership as the season progresses and the individuals become more comfortable with one another.
As for Brock, there is a good amount of experience on the roster which should translate into toughness, athleticism, strength and improved chemistry.
One of their strongest and most skilled players is Mark Gibson who displayed a back to the basket game, hook shot and both baseline and elbow jumper.
Gibson was a problem for the Gaels defense because he forced help defenders on him, which created space for the guys on the perimeter to knock down shots.
With the victory, Brock moves to 4-4 against CIS competition in the pre-season. The Badgers will open their OUA regular season against Laurentian on November 9, while Queens (also 4-4) embark on the 2012-2013 season on November 9 against the Wilfred Laurier Hawks.
