WNPA Rankings Heading into the National Championships (March 26-30)
As the National Championships rapidly approach, the WNPA rankings have shaped up to set the stage for a thrilling tournament. With the competition heating up, Crestwood Prep enters the event as the top-ranked team with an impressive 9-1 record, followed closely by Capital Courts, also sitting at 9-1 but losing the tiebreaker to Crestwood. Fort Erie, Niagara Prep, and St. Judes round out the top five, setting up an exciting battle for the title. Let’s break down the standings and what each team brings to the table heading into March 26-30.
1. Crestwood Prep (9-1)
Crestwood Prep heads into the National Championships with the best record in the league, having gone 9-1 throughout the regular season. Their only loss came in a tightly contested match, but they’ve shown tremendous consistency and skill in their performances. With the top seed, Crestwood will be looking to carry this momentum into the tournament and secure a championship win. Expect strong leadership and high-level play from this powerhouse team.
2. Capital Courts (9-1)
Capital Courts, with an identical 9-1 record, is not far behind Crestwood Prep. Their only blemish on the season was a tough loss that resulted in them losing the tiebreaker to Crestwood. However, their solid performance throughout the season demonstrates their championship potential. With their eyes set on redemption, Capital Courts will come into the National Championships hungry for victory and a chance to claim the top spot that narrowly eluded them.
3. Fort Erie (7-2)
Fort Erie, with a record of 7-2, has proven themselves to be a strong contender.Their solid play and ability to execute under pressure will make them a tough opponent in the National Championships. As the third-ranked team, they’ll be aiming to prove that they belong among the elite and will look to make a deep run into the tournament.
4. Niagara Prep (6-4)
Niagara Prep is another serious contender, finishing with a 6-4 record. Despite their losses, the team has demonstrated the ability to compete with the best, and they’ll look to capitalize on that experience in the National Championships. With a talented roster and the drive to upset higher-ranked teams, Niagara Prep will be looking to prove that they can rise to the occasion when it matters most.
5. St. Judes (6-4)
Also finishing at 6-4, St. Judes is another team that has had a solid but inconsistent season. However, their balance and depth make them a dangerous team when they’re clicking on all cylinders. If they can find their rhythm and execute at their best, St. Judes could be poised for an unexpected run at the title.
6. Royal Crown (2-8)
At first glance, Royal Crown’s 2-8 record might not turn heads, but the reality tells a different story. Their true on-court record stands at 2-3, with five forfeited games due to scheduling conflicts stemming from their heavy involvement in other circuits. This is a team that, when present, competes at a high level and has all the tools to disrupt the competition.
Despite the setbacks, Royal Crown remains a formidable opponent capable of turning the tide against any team. Their talent, experience, and ability to perform under pressure make them a prime candidate for an upset in the championship. Underestimating them based on their record alone would be a mistake—when they’re locked in, they’re a serious threat.
7. Lincoln Prep (2-7)
Lincoln Prep finished the regular season with a 2-7 record, showing some flashes of potential but struggling to put together consistent performances. While their chances at the National Championship may seem slim, they are a team capable of pulling off upsets and will no doubt look to build momentum heading into the tournament.
8. Edge Prep (2-8)
Edge Prep, similarly, enters the National Championships with a 2-8 record. Much like Royal Crown and Lincoln Prep, they have faced their fair share of challenges throughout the season. However, there’s always the possibility for a team to hit their stride at the right moment, and Edge Prep will be hoping to do just that in this high-stakes tournament.
9. CODE (2-8)
CODE also sits at a 2-8 record, joining Edge Prep and others in the lower half of the rankings. However, like the rest of the teams in this tier, they can still be a wildcard in the National Championships. If they can play with heart and intensity, CODE could defy expectations and prove that they deserve to be in the tournament.
10. Notre Dame (2-8)
Rounding out the rankings is Notre Dame, also with a 2-8 record. With a difficult season behind them, Notre Dame will face an uphill battle in the National Championships. But the beauty of tournaments like these is the unpredictability—if Notre Dame can harness their potential, they may surprise the field and make a deep run.
