2025 6’7 W Yann Aphely: Freak Athlete with Elite Upside

In the world of high school basketball, few prospects have as much upside as Yann Aphely, a 6’7” wing from Ottawa playing at Royal Crown. A true two-way force with elite physical attributes and an unmatched motor, Aphely has all the tools to be a future Division I standout.

I first saw Yann years ago playing with Ottawa Next Level in the NPHShowcase League. His athletic ability always stood out, but now in his senior year he has put in serious work developing his skill.

Elite Athleticism & Physical Tools

What immediately stands out about Aphely is his freakish athleticism. At 6’7” with impressive length, he plays well above the rim and moves with the agility of a guard. His combination of size, quickness, and explosiveness makes him a nightmare matchup on both ends of the floor.

Defensive Versatility & Impact

Defensively, Aphely is a game-changer. His ability to guard all five positions sets him apart from most wings at his level. Whether he’s locking up quick guards on the perimeter or protecting the rim against bigs, his versatility makes him a coach’s dream. His elite shot-blocking ability allows him to anchor a defense, while his length and anticipation help him disrupt passing lanes and force turnovers. His motor makes him an active defender on the offensive and defensive end.

Offensive Upside & Development

Offensively, Aphely thrives as a lob threat and slasher, using his length, body control, and athleticism to finish over defenders. He attacks the rim with force, making him difficult to contain in transition and in half-court sets. While his perimeter shooting is still developing, he’s showing steady improvement, adding a layer to his offensive game that will make him even more dangerous at the next level.

D1 Recruitment Outlook

With his athleticism, size, motor, and two-way impact, Aphely is poised to be a top target for Division I coaches heading into the NPA Nationals (March 26-30). A strong showing at the tournament could solidify his status as one of the most coveted prospects in the 2025 class.

Expect his name to rise in recruiting circles as more programs take notice of his elite potential. Aphely isn’t just a player to watch—he’s a future star in the making.
