Get familiar with this budding star from Algeria, making noise in Canada
It’s only been a few months since Chakib Sedoud made the move from Algeria to Quebec, where he’s now playing for CSJV.
The decision to choose Quebec to pursue his career over anywhere else stemmed from his ability to speak fluent French, which makes for a much easier transition than going anywhere else in Canada or the United States.
When watching him play, you almost can’t even tell he’s still trying to get acclimated to a new team, new style of play, new competition, and new environment. Part of this is due to the fact that he played with the Algerian U18 National team, which explains why he’s so composed amidst all this transition. He’s coming in with a great amount of experience playing at different levels, and an extremely polished skillset at around 6’8.
In his very first NPA game back in October he put up 13 points on 5/7 from the field, 2/2 from three with 8 rebounds in just 19 minutes of play.
That first game was all it took to get adjusted, as he came out in the second game and completely dominated finishing with 31 points, 10 rebounds 3 steals, 2 blocks, making 5 out of 8 threes in a OT win. He did everything for his team and hit some big time shots late in the game. Not afraid of the big moment.
What a game here for 2024 6'9 Chakib Sedoud in a thrilling OT win putting up 31 points 10 rebounds & 2 blocks @CollgeStJeanVia

The game after that one he put up 19 points and 15 rebounds, showed no signs of slowing down.
To get an idea of Chakib’s game, you can rewatch all of his NPA games on North Pole Hoops YouTube. But to sum it up in a short evaluation, he’s a skilled & lengthy finesse forward with great instincts. PnP/PnR threat. Has great perimeter skills for his size, can handle and put it on the floor. Soft touch around the rim on finishes. Extremely effective pumpfake that allows him to attack closeouts at a high level. Strong rebounder. Global experience under his belt.
In the second NPA session in November, he continued to build off an impressive showing in the first one. This time, he showcased pretty good playmaking ability, having a game with 7 assists against first-placed Fort Erie Red where he & his teammates showed no fear going up against the country’s top prep program. They nearly pulled off the upset of the season and led for the majority of the game.
For the season, Chakib’s averaging 15.1ppg, 7.7rpg, 1.3bpg, 1.1spg, with an extremely efficient 57% on 2-pointers, 43% on 3-pointers, & 86% from the line.
Chakib’s gained some interest from D1 schools at all levels. Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Looking forward to seeing him & CSJV play in the new year.
