Marial Shayok Drawing NBA praise, Following Career Night for Virginia

Sometimes all it takes is one game, at the right time.

Ottawa, Ontario’s Marial Shayok had that game during Virginia’s first NCAA tournament bout against UNC-Wilmington.

Shayok put up a career-high 23 points, after averaging 8.6 points on the season.

Shayok’s performance has drawn praise from U.S media, referring to the junior as an NBA calibre wing.

Not an off base statement by any stretch.

The former national team member was a NPH Top-5 prospect (#4) in the Canadian class of 2014, who is in good company.

Other Top-5 prospects included current NBAer in Trey Lyles (Utah Jazz), along with PAC 12 player of the year and NBA prospect Dillon Brooks of the Oregon Ducks.

Sometimes all it takes is one game to boost a player’s pro stock during the NCAA tournament.

With Shayok making his mark early in the tournament, Virginia moves on to face Florida on Saturday, March 18 at 8:40 PM ET.
