Adidas unveils All Star uniforms

Adidas unveiled the All Star Game uniforms that the best of the best NBA players will be wearing in February in Toronto Thursday (well actually Wednesday) and they pretty nice looking.

As you can see they are keeping pretty simple with two base colors on both the East and West versions.  Both will sport equally simple block letters and numbers on the front and the back.

Both versions will sport the secondary color blocking on the upper part of the shorts.  As well there will be a Kia logo, the game’s title sponsor, on the upper left just about where the NBA logo would have been in years past.

Though the uniforms themselves look simple there are some really cool aesthetic parts too.  On the shorts the start will include claw marks like the one used on the Raptors’ logo to let you know where the game is being played.  The star will also have a shadow if you will of a maple leaf above the top, another reminder of the game being in Canada.

The best accent is actually on the back of the jerseys.  There is an awesome sublimated Toronto skyline that includes the iconic CN Tower.  Above the skyline is the All Star logo within a star that really is a stylized maple leaf and above that is a block patch with “TO16” to further mark the city and the year of the game.

There will also be a line of t-shirts and sweaters branded either in West red or East blue as well as All Star Game branded track pants.  There will also be an additional full zip warm up jacket that the players may be wearing on court for the game.

In my opinion, these are some pretty dope All Star Game uniforms and are probably the best in a while.  The simplicity of the uniforms I think makes them look great especially when the everything seems to be about being as busy as possible.  The Adidas design team managed to make all the accents of the uniform stay subtle enough to not steal the show but also bold enough to impress at their cleverness.  Of course, as a Canadian seeing the many maple leaf references is pretty awesome and being born and bred in the 6ix seeing the skyline on the back is just icing on the cake.

Our homies at SoleShift put together a cool short where Adidas Director of NBA Partnership David Cho talks about the inspiration behind the uniform and it gives some insight into the design …

The full line will be available globally in January leading up to the All Star Game in Toronto.
