Development Men’s National Team Training Camp Roster Announced

Toronto, Ont. – Canada’s best student athletes have assembled in Portland, Ore. for training camp. The group of 16 men will be led by Senior Men’s National Team head coach Jay Triano as they prepare for this summer’s competitions.

The team will grow as a single unit in the state-of-the-art Bo Jackson Fitness Center located at Nike World Headquarters where a dedicated team of training staff will help these young men develop their skills and talents. The 16 athletes selected will go through a rigorous workout and practice regimen before heading overseas to play in an exhibition series in China.

Canada Basketball logoHead coach Triano, assistant coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, will be joined by an experienced staff as the team prepares for this summer’s FISU Summer Universiade. Assistant coaches Dave Smart, Greg Francis and Phil Handy will lend their extensive coaching expertise and impressive knowledge base to the team.

Canada Basketball’s assistant general manager and executive vice-president of the Senior Men’s Program, Rowan Barrett, sees the event as an excellent gauge of Canada’s young talent, as well as a unique learning experience. “The group that we have selected represent some of the best young athletes in Canada. The exhibition tournament in China and the FISU games in Russia will serve as a stepping-stone for these 16 athletes as our country prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.”

The FISU Summer Universiade, also known as the World University Games, will feature the top tier of student athletes from across the globe competing in the largest international sporting event outside of the Olympic Games. The event will take place in Kazan, Russia from July 6 to 17.
