Last Week Ranking: 2 Ranking Change: League Record:10-1 Overall Record: 21-6 Week 10 Wins: DME Academy (FL) (61-58) Week 10 Losses: Aspire Academy (KY) (82-77), Prolific Prep (76-65)

— Coach Mikey🏈🎤🏀 (@GrindSeshMike) January 5, 2019
Orangeville Prep kicked off 2019 going right back into the fire down south at the Grind Session. They first traveled to Kentucky for a last minute game against Aspire Academy, where they just came up short, then bounced back against DME Academy. To top off the session, they fell to #28 nationally ranked Prolific Prep according to Prep Circuit, but not before Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe managed to blow the roof off of the gym with a thunderous poster. Between him and Jevonnie Scott, you might need to start referring to O’ville as the ‘Body Bag Gang’.
3. Ridley College (St. Catherines, Ontario)
Last Week Ranking: 3 Ranking Change: None League Record: 7-2 Overall Record: 17-7 Week 10 Wins: Week 10 Losses:
Ridley College is back in action this week in league play to kick off 2019, as they take on King’s Christian later today and Central Tech tomorrow. They will be hosting their own tournament this coming weekend to top off a busy week ahead of them.
4. RISE Prep (Brantford, Ontario)
Last Week Ranking: 4 Ranking Change: None League Record: 8-5 Overall Record: 21-10 Week 10 Wins: None Week 10 Losses: FHC (80-72)
RISE Prep enjoyed their Christmas break, but were given a rude awakening in the form of FHC to start their 2019 year. We expected a big game from their three headed monster Rahmir Moore, Miguel Tomley, and Josh Noton, but they managed to be mostly held in check by the aggressive full throttle play of FHC. Despite the loss, RISE is still one of the most dangerous teams in Canada with one of the deepest rosters, and will get one more crack to turn it around before getting bounced out of the top five.
5. TRC Academy (Brantford, Ontario)
Last Week Ranking: 6 Ranking Change: Up 1 League Record: 9-0 Overall Record: 15-5 Week 10 Wins: Southwest (96-74) Week 10 Losses: None
https://www.instagram.com/p/BsZYqG1nZee/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
TRC Academy pulled out yet another impressive win over an up and coming Southwest Academy out of London. After only defeating Southwest by one point in their previous meeting, The Wolfpack pulled out ahead early on the road, and never really had this one in question after the first quarter. Sharpshooter Avan Nava had 26 points along with 7 rebounds in the win, and continues to show just how valuable of a combo guard he will be at the next level. This is now the highest TRC has been ranked all year, which isn’t bad at all considering most were expecting it to be a rebuilding one.
6. Father Henry Carr (Rexdale, Ontario)
Last Week Ranking: 8 Ranking Change: Up 2 League Record: 8-2 Overall Record: 14-9 Week 10 Wins: RISE Prep (80-72) Week 10 Losses: Liberty Heights (NC) (62-47), Virginia Academy (VA) (60-58), St. Andrew’s (RI) (73-57)
What makes @FHCBasketball travel from our neighbors to the North to #GovChallenge for the 2nd straight year⁉️🇨🇦

— Governors Challenge (@GovChallenge) December 28, 2018
Despite going 0-3 after their trip to the Governor’s Challenge out in Salisbury, Maryland. FHC will moves up two spots after an 80-72 road victory over RISE Prep last night. Kobey Lam dropped 21 in the win vs RISE, while Caleb Johnson managed to step up during the Governor’s Challenge for the Crusaders against St. Andrews, despite recovering from both an injury and a cold. FHC are now firmly in control of second place in their division, and could be in the top five as soon as next week if they manage to get a few more high profile victories.
7. Thornlea (Thornhill, Ontario)
Last Week Ranking: 5 Ranking Change: Down 2 League Record: 7-5 Overall Record: 13-8 Week 10 Wins: None Week 10 Losses: None
Thornlea has had a quiet start to 2019, and as a result slip out of the top five for at least one week. Look for Cashius McNeilly and the rest of the Thunder to get right back into the top five conversation when they take on Vaughan January 15th.
8. Crestwood Prep (North York, Ontario)

Last Week Ranking: 11 Ranking Change: Down 1 League Record: 5-6 Overall Record: 11-9 Week 10 Wins: None Week 10 Losses: TRC Academy (96-74)
This was a game that was surely marked on Southwest’s calendar after nearly upsetting the defending OSBA champs on their home floor to kick off the season, but it just wasn’t Southwest’s night. TRC Academy managed to get out in transition in the first quarter and never really looked back. Southwest continues to struggle with consistency, but they are simply a team that is trying to learn how to win big games. Nobody is overlooking Kobe Elvis and the rest of this squad anymore, and as a result they will have to come ready every single night to avoid results like this.
13. Halifax Prep (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

Amir Golizadeh has also become a breakout name in the NPA after a 70 point performance just a couple weeks ago to cap off 2018. With all of this to consider, not be shocked if you see TBA in the win column after today.

GTA Prep’s first game of 2019 will be an in house matchup later today against GTA Academy at Fletcher’s Meadow S.S. in Brampton. This has been a team that has definitely shown they can run with anyone through the first half of the season, but much like a number of teams between the 10-20 spots nationally, consistency in every game will be key for them to crack the top 10 in 2019. In the meantime, Coach David Cooper can hang his hat on the NCAA and USports interest his squad has been garnering everywhere that they have traveled to this season.
