NOVA SCOTIA–When two of the top scorers in the Nova Scotia Metro league go head to head, tuning in is a must! So when Lockview’s Alex Chisholm leading the league in scoring takes on his emulator, Millwoods Shawn Lucas you better believe you’re going to have a packed gym and a game that will keep you out of your seat.
The game ended just like last years with a victory of only one point; it was a constant battle between the Dragons and the Knights keeping the game neck and neck the through four quarters.
Both teams answering back and fourth with three pointers and aggressive penetration, yet the Knights couldn’t slay the Dragons…one point victory for Lockview 100-99.
The game was neck and neck for the majority of the first quarter but Lockview started pulling away from the Knights thanks to Brandon Miller practically knocking down every shot he took. Millwood trailed behind Lockview by seven points at the end of the first 26-19.
Millwood’s Tre Lucas comes out in the second knocking down a three pointer to close the gap to only four points. Also Millwood’s leader and freakishly athletic NPH ranked (2012) Shawn Lucas starts opening up, making it look easy.
Lucas constantly slashed through the lane, pouring in points for the Knights keeping this game exciting and close. By the end of the second, Shawn Lucas had 17 points which puts Millwood up at half by four points with a score consisting of 50-46.
Not to be denied, Alex Chisholm of Lockview entered the third quarter with a hot hand knocking down three triples in a row.
By the middle of the quarter, the game was tied up 60-60. Nearing the end, Lockview goes on a great run pulling ahead of Millwood entering the third with a solid lead of 77-69.
NPH caught up with Chisholm in post game about his performance in the third quarter.
“They were playing strong help side defence, so we found it hard to get into the lane. I had to rely on my outside shot which was working for me,” explained Chisholm
In the fourth, Millwood really steeped it up and displayed great passing being lead by shooting guard Ryan Hill, finding his teammates open and also hitting multiple three pointers to put his team back in the game.
Alex Chisholm fouled out which was really a draw back for Lockview considering he was leading their team in points. From there, Brandon Miller had to take control and maintain this lead. Millwood crept up closing the gap to only a one point game with seven seconds remaining, but missed a breath taking buzzer beater which gave Lockview the victory 100-99.
NPH asked Miller for his thoughts on the fourth quarter, “We got into foul trouble early so when we got up we tended to relax and they got back into the game by hitting three’s…when Millwood’s shooters get hot they can hit from anywhere.”
This victory gives Lockview a record of 6-4 and currently placed fifth overall in Metro while Millwood will move onto a record of 6-5.
