FISU UPDATE: Canada Advances to Semi-Final Led by Tyson Hinz and Warren Ward
SHENZHEN, CHINA–The Canadian University team comprised of the brightest prospects in the CIS have achieved great success thus far in China for the FISU games, led by 2010-2011 CIS MVP, Tyson Hinz and Ottawa Gee Gee, Warren Ward.
Canada holds a record of 4-1 with victories over Turkey, Serbia, Hong Kong and Romania, losing only to Austalia, 63-61.
The team now moves on to face Lithuania on Sunday in a semi-final matchup. The last occasion that Canada’s university team medaled was in 2007 when they earned bronze in Thailand.
Canada has earned gold once in team history, which happened to be on Canadian soil in 1983 [Edmonton, Alberta].
Led by the combination of a deep talent pool and experienced coaches, this group has a legitimate chance to capture gold, but first they will need to take care of Lithuania on Sunday.
