Top 2020 Canadian Prospect Okay Djamgouz commits to London Basketball Academy in NPA!

London Basketball Academy have added another high level talent to their roster with the commitment of Okay Djamgouz for the 2017-2018 NPA season.

Djamgouz is a 6’4 point guard out of Oakville, ON that is a true student of the game and works tirelessly to continue improving.

Okay’s father, Tevfik Djamgouz says it was a very difficult decision because of all the great programs and coaches that showed interest in Okay. However, it was a vacation in Florida that proved LBA head coach Angelo Provenzano’s dedication as to one of the major reasons for committing to LBA.

“We went on vacation to Florida and Angelo happened to be there and he offered to meet up with Okay. He heard Okay works out early in the morning even on vacation and he decided to get up early as well and come work out with him. He basically said to Okay that he hears he is a hard worker and as long as you’re in for it, I commit to work with you at any time. That was huge for Okay,” said Tevfik.

Djamgouz showed he is able to compete at a high level during the Hamilton NPH Showcase in August. He used his size and high IQ to make the right plays, whether it be shooting the three ball or finding an open teammate.

National recruiting analyst, Elias Sbiet praised Djamgouz for his maturity and commitment to basketball.

“Okay is a gem when it comes to the level of maturity at such a young age. His focus level is through the roof and that is a testament to where is skill level is at. He’s a guy that gets up everyday and is in the gym by 6 AM training hard,” said Sbiet.

Tevfik believes it’s Okay’s love for the game and work ethic both on and off the court that make him a high level prospect.

“Okay is so passionate about basketball, he reads a lot and studies his favourite players, like he’s a huge Michael Jordan fan and Kobe Bryant fan. He read about their work ethic since he was very young and because he is so passionate, Okay wanted to emulate those greats and it doesn’t even feel like work to him, ” said Tevfik.

Okay will bring a lot to LBA this season including his strong work ethic, which will rub off on the rest of the team. He also possesses elite three point shooting and an underrated court vision ability. By studying the game, Okay has developed a very high basketball IQ.

“The fact that he is able to play both guard positions already at 6’4 is impressive and it will be a great fill for LBA,” said Sbiet.

Tevfik and the LBA players are very optimistic for the upcoming season hoping to go one step further than last year.

“I’m hearing the boys say, well last year they lost in the Final so this year we have to win it all. I love to hear that from players. I met with the players and Okay himself and they were saying that’s their goal. Whether they do it or not is secondary because the main thing for any player is how can they develop this year, ” said Tevfik.

LBA are coming off a successful inaugural NPA season where they fell just short losing 108-98 in the National Championship game against Canada Top Flight. With the commitment of both Okay Djamgouz and Jonty Vink, LBA are looking like a very dangerous team for the upcoming season.
