Cordell Veira Commits to Florida International University

Cordell Veria’s production levels have been outstanding over the years. Whether in high school or on the AAU circuit, Veira is usually the team’s top performer. When the coaching staff at Florida International University laid eyes on him in action, they didn’t need to see more. Veira was their guy.

Last week, the coaching staff came to Toronto to watch a practice at Toronto Basketball Academy, John Polanyi High School and then followed with a home visit

The 6’3 combo guard expressed his gratitude to FIU and is anxious to take the next step in his career.

“For them to believe that I can come in and add to their program from when they first met me is an honour. I just want to come in next year and do what ever I got to do to help win games. I understand that my minutes will be earned and I’m ready to put in the work.”

Veira was being recruited by all of the top University basketball programs in Canada and had several interested schools in the NCAA, yet when FIU pulled the trigger, he weighed everything out and committed.

  • student body of 54,000 (Top 10 largest university in the U. S)
  • competing in Conference USA
  • located in Miami, Florida

Although Veira is anxious to move on to the next level, there is still some unfinished business in high school.

“It would mean the world to my teammates and I if we finish the season with the NPA National Championship. This is the first ever, we would remember it for a lifetime and be apart of history…We’ve been through ups and downs throughout the season but we’re the best we’ve been right now.”
