Halifax vs Windsor – NBLC Finals Preview

The NBL Canada Finals are set.

After a hard-fought seven game series between the Brampton A’s and the Windsor Express, the defending League champs from Windsor are moving on for a chance at the repeat.

It wasn’t easy for the Express after they trailed 3-1 in the Central Division finals to a game Brampton squad, but three straight wins later has them saying “I Believe.”

Halifax has been waiting since eliminating the Island Storm in a Game 5 OT thriller on March 30, two full weeks ago.

Will the rest help Halifax claim their first League title, or will Windsor carry momentum into the NBL Canada Finals and repeat?

The Express will have home court advantage in the series and will host Games 1 and 2, which will be played on Wednesday, April 15th and Friday, April 17th respectively, starting at 7:00pm at the WFCU Centre.

Games 3, 4 and 5 will be in Halifax, with Games 6 and 7, if necessary, back in Windsor.

NBLC Awards Franchise to Niagara

Canada’s pro basketball league is headed to the Niagara region to start play in the 2015-16 season.

The franchise will have their head office on Front street in Thorold, and the Meridian Centre will be the team’s home.

But first they’ll need a name – and you can help them pick it!

If it were my pick I’d go Niagara Huskies – a nod to Canadian pro hoops history and the Toronto Huskies, as well as the local ties to the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs.

Next season’s NBLC schedule will return to a 40-game slate (after this season’s 32 game trial) and will also start later with a Boxing Day tipoff.

NBLC Teams Entering ‘The Basketball Tournament’

A Philadelphia-based basketball event pits 97 teams in a winner-take-a-million-dollars tournament, dubbed TBT.

Team Mill Rats was the first NBLC Team to declare and construction of their squad is well underway with the addition of former Raptor Jamario Moon.

Halifax will also be sending a team to TBT, but are focusing on the NBLC Finals first.

Voter support helps these teams gain entry into TBT so if you’re a fan of either or Canadian basketball in general, click on their names above and help vote them in.
