Silver Fox Invitational Features Top HS Teams in the Country!

Silver_Fox

The Silver Fox Invitational tips off this Thursday, January 29 in Hamilton, Ontario.

The Fox committee has once again done a fantastic job of compiling several of the top teams in Ontario, along with Manitoba’s top squad Oak Park.

“I think the tournament is very strong from a competitive standpoint,” explained tournament convenor Jim Weatherbee. “Any of the top four seeds could be upset, and any in the top 12 or 14 area are capable of winning the tournament.”

  • #11 Corpus Christi
  • #14 Thornlea
  • #15 Oak Park
  • #16 Saltfleet
  • #17 St Mary’s

  • #23 Bishop Reding

How Good is Saltfleet?

Saltfleet Secondary out of Hamilton, Ontario is a host team for the Silver Fox, defending AAA OFSAA champions and a well coached squad with star guard Nikola Djogo accompanied with a strong supporting cast.

saltfleet_stormHolding a 17-3 record, Saltfleet has been a part of the #NPHTop25 National High School Rankings all year, and for the first time since taking on #2 SJK, they will compete against fellow Top 25 squads; this tournament, which could be a defining moment to their season.

Holy Trinity, currently on the outside looking in, is Saltfleet’s first round match up game; this one could go either way as the Oakville boys have talented youth with speed and athleticism. Saltfleet is a veteran squad, making them a slight favourite.

Both teams have had their ups and downs throughout the season, having yet to play to their potential, but the Silver Fox will be an ideal opportunity to right the ship. Another very good first round match up featuring top Canadian prospects including Christian David, Xavier Ochu, Tesloth Simon, Jermaine Lyle, Tyrique Thompson to name a few.

Oak Park Will be Tested

Oak Park wins the Wesmen Classic

The lone out of province team is making the trip from Manitoba–Oak Park is a strong favourite to win their provincial title, arguably MB’s top team, although Kildonan East may have something to say about that.

Oak Park holds a 12-1 record as they enter the Silver Fox, featuring four provincial team members (that won nationals) including twin towers 6’9 William Kohler, and 6’8 UBC commit Roger Milne, and William Sesay.

They take on a solid Thornlea squad that made some noise early in the season, and return their star guard Jaaden Lewis, following an ankle injury.

“We are very happy with the representation across Ontario, and the highlight will be hosting Oak Park from Winnipeg,” said Weatherbee.

“It will be a good test for them, the curiousity of what they will bring is something of an interest for coaches and baskeball people.”

Stay tuned for updated #NPHTop25 set for release tomorrow!
