Stauskas went through a productive off season to prepare himself for this moment.

“I felt this was a really good decision to leave at this point and achieve my goal to play in the NBA,” Stauskas told the media during Michigan’s press conference.

A reporter asked when it was that Stauskas had big league ambitions.

“It was the first time I picked up a basketball, when I was seven years old…I said I wanted to be an NBA player.”

Regarding projections throughout the season and where he could get drafted, “I think I did a good job of staying focused throughout the season no matter what people said about me.”

Stauskas said that he was content with the information that he receved from the NBA advisory board, which made his decision easy.

Andrew Wiggins and Tyler Ennis have already declared for the NBA draft, and Stauskas is the third Canadian that will be drafted in the first round.

“The rise of Canadian basketball has been unbelievable. You see many Canadians making the jump to the NBA, and I’m proud to be a part of that group.”
