Tariq’s Tidbits: St Augustine VS Bill Crothers Ahead + JBC Day Two Top Performers

I made the trip to Unionville (Markham) to introduce myself to some new talent in the class of 2017 and 2018. Day one of the Junior Basketball Championships (JBC) did not disappoint.

Tariq’s Tidbits

  • St Augustine (Brampton) is a team I’ve been hearing a lot about. Will be seeing them today; only undefeated team in the tournament, will take on Bill Crothers in what will likely be the game of the day. The word is, Augustine has a trio of versatile guards. Looking forward to seeing them.

  • Crothers junior team loaded with talent. 6’10 Cole Lawrence has “big time” upside. Miykah McIntosh looks like the BCSS engine. Shakur Daniel contributes in every statistical category.
  • I watched Adham Eleeda of St Mary’s put up 27 points, using smooth shooting stroke to light it up. St Mary’s has all the pieces to make a run at the JBC title.
  • Nikeil Alexander-Walker has been leading Vaughan; a gym rat with a sound fundamental skill set…first watched him last summer and made a strong impression.
  • Rasheed Weakes of St FX bullied his way into a baseline drive for the eventual game-winner over JC Richardson.
  • This is the first time ever that an Ontario-wide tournament has been held for a junior championship. The winner of the JBC will set precedent for years to come.
