Tshing Kasamba & Badgers VS. Tyrell Vernon & Knights in NBBL Action!
The NBBL [North of the Border Basketball League] is off and running approaching it’s fifth week of operation, while receiving tremendous feedback and community support.
“The response within Hamilton has been phenomenal. Everyone involved ranging from the players to the spectators have had nothing but gleaming responses. Many were intrigued by the idea of an elite basketball league being ran out of Hamilton and both the product and presentation have lived up to expectations,” stated Josuha Sheriff, Vice-President of the NBBL.
This league is composed of current professionals such as Ryan Wright [Sonic Boom KT/ South Korea] and Terance Licorish [Montreal Jazz/ NBLC] along with CIS and CCAA stars including Victor Raso [Carleton], Tshing Kasamba [Brock], Meshack Lufile [Cape Breton], Andrew Cicuttin [Mohawk] and Manny Campbell [Mohawk] to name a few.
Canadians in the NCAA that are expected to join the league next month are Brady Heslip [Baylor], Grant Mullins [Columbia], and Chadrack Lufile [Wichita State] fresh off a Final Four appearance.
“It is our goal to operate an elite basketball league within Canada that will attract and house the best local talent across the nation. The level of basketball talent within Canada is growing exponentially each year,” said Sheriff.
“We’re looking to provide our Canadian players with the ability to compete with athletes at a high level to further foster their growth.”
Stand out performances thus far include Terance Licorish posting a league-high 39 points, as well as Ryan Wright and Victor Raso both registering 31 points apiece.
Andrew Cicuttin received the first Player of the Week award, recording 24 Points and 14 Rebounds. Tshing Kasamba received the second, while Victor Raso has taken the honour the past two weeks.
Friday Featured Game Match Up
Heading into Friday, June 14, the Badgers [3-0] and the Knights [3-1] will collide, as they jock for position in the NBBL league standings.
The Knights and Badgers are coming into this game second and third in the league respectively. The Knights could be the best three-point shooting team led by Tyrell Vernon, Arun Kumar, Zach Angelini, Jerome Smith and Jermaine Decosta…only getting hotter from the field with each passing week.
Their team chemistry and unselfishness enables them to play fundamental, efficient basketball.
On the other hand, the Badgers have arguably the most balanced team in the league. Led by their three stars in Tshing Kasamba, Meshack Lufile and Cedric Kasongo the Badgers are a formidable foe. They can light it up from outside, bang down low, get out and run, play superb defence and make an appearance on the highlight reel.
Tshing is currently first in the NBBL MVP race, while Tyrell Vernon trails at third.
NPH will be providing media coverage for the rest of the NBBL season, with a featured game per week, starting with a highly anticipated game between the aforementioned Knights and Badgers.
“North of the Border Basketball league is excited to announce the addition of NPH as the official media coverage provider of the NBBL. We share the sentiments in building Canada’s basketball culture and providing an elite level product. Together we will give all of our viewers in-depth coverage of this thriving league.”
