6’10 Michael Quinn Commits to Acadia
WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University and men’s basketball head coach Stephen Baur are pleased to announce the commitment by Rockland, Ont. native Michael Quinn. The 6’10” power forward is a welcome addition to the roster of the CIS fourth place finishers.
A member of Team Ontario Under 17 and Under 15 squads, Quinn was a highly recruited forward as a Team Canada Cadet. His size will be a welcome addition to the Axemen who hope to find a complement to 6′ 10″ All-Canadian forward Owen Klassen.
A shot blocker, a great athlete with a good shooting touch, Quinn plays for the Ottawa Guardsmen and the Northeast King Club.
“Mike is a great fit for Acadia”, notes head coach Stephen Baur. “The timing is perfect to add a versatile forward that can learn from Owen (Klassen) and our seniors for a year. Mike has the skills and athleticism to have an impact next year and beyond.”
Quinn, who hopes to take a Bachelor of Business Administration degree once his admittance is finalized, is excited about his decision to attend Acadia – one of four schools who comprise the U4 League. The U4 League, Acadia, Bishop’s, Mount Allison and Saint Francis Xavier universities, are committed to a teaching model that puts undergraduate education first. Central to this mission are the fundamentals of teaching, including fostering a highly personal and supportive learning environment.
“I decided to go to Acadia because it felt like the right fit”, points out Quinn. “I just liked every aspect about it from the academics, community and athletics. I am very excited about starting a new chapter in my life at Acadia”.
The Axemen, who completed the season with an overtime loss to the University of Ottawa Gee Gees in the CIS Bronze medal game, will open the exhibition season with an Ontario swing against McMaster, Guelph and Ryerson on the October 18th weekend.
