Matthew Beckford Commits to Ryerson, Opening New Era at The Gardens!

TORONTO,ON–Days after the Ryerson Rams locked up a spot in this weekend’s OUA Final Four in Waterloo, Head Coach Roy Rana received great news from 6’6 Forward Matthew Beckford, as the hidden gem has committed to Ryerson.

Ryerson Commit, 6'6 Matthew Beckford

Beckford becomes the first player in the 2012 recruiting class to commit to the  program, “opening a new era at The Gardens” as Rana puts it.

The 6’6 power forward out of Monsignor Percy HS (Etobicoke, Ontario)  possesses great strength, and will begin delivering “The Beckford Smash”  in the OUA next season.

NPH first had the opportunity to witness Beckford in action during the Oakville Venom tournament last May where he impressed with his power, footwork and high energy.

After registering impressive numbers in his high school season including three games of 40+, Beckford was invited to the first-ever NPH Platform which you can safely say was his coming out party posting 13 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks against some of the nation’s finest talent.

“He has the potential to become a force in our league,” Rana told NPH. “A true diamond in the rough who can develop into a special player.”

Based on the team’s current  talent, combined with Beckford and  future commitments, it is looking like an exciting team will suit up in Ryerson’s new gymnasium.

One thing is for sure…securing Beckford is a great start.
