HALIFAX,NS–It seems like a fairytale to this supreme basketball talent, but it is in fact reality for Christian “T-Bear Upshaw” who has signed to play professional basketball with the Halifax Rainmen of the National Basketball League of Canada!
Dreams do come true.
Upshaw had an outstanding career playing for St francis Xavier of the CIS, last season averaging 18.1 PPG, 4.8 APG, 3.1 RPG while shooting a sizzling 47% from the field.
The 6’0 guard ranks second in his school’s all-time scoring list with 1586 points, good for ninth-best in AUA history!
Ecstatic would be an understatement.
“I finally get to live a dream I’ve been dreaming for a long time,” said Upshaw.
“To play professionally in my home town is beyond what I’ve ever imagined. It means so much to me to be able to play at this level in front of the people who have been there for me from the beginning, and will hopefully be there until the end. I hope to make Halifax proud this season.”
A favourite in the local basketball community, Upshaw spent three years as a standout player for Saint Patrick’s High School where he won three provincial championships. He also spent five years on Saint Francis Xavier University’s roster where he earned the back-to-back title of Atlantic University Sport MVP in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
“Christian is a player that I’ve been watching since his first year at StFx,” said Halifax Rainmen President & CEO, Andre Levingston.
“He has worked extremely hard throughout our training camp and has truly earned his position on our roster. I’m extremely confident that he will be seeing a fair amount of floor time this season, and that within a few years he will develop into one of the top guards in our league.”
