U17 Women’s National Championships – NLBA vs PEI
For the first few minutes it looked like Newfoundland & Labrador were running away with the game, however in the second quarter PEI came battling back and went on a 10-2 run that would bring them back within two. NLBA couldn’t manage to get things going without their go to girl Hannah Jardine on the floor. Head coach Darrel Ezekiel made a good choice putting in daughter, Sydney in who proved to be effective in pushing the ball and dishing out assists.
NLBA went into the second half with a 34-28 lead. Jane Mclaughlin played one of her better games by producing from every angle (17 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists). PEI was down for the whole second halfregardless of the effort from Rayelle Morrison pitching in for 16 of her own. The biggest lead was seven and both teams were playing top notch defense. Every time PEI would inch closer NLBA would respond with two of their own.
It wasn’t until the final 2 minutes of the game that that NLBA would secure their lead. Jardine was in foul trouble for most of the game yet Coach Ezekiel took his chances and let her start the 4th quarter. Playing only 18 minutes in this contest, this Team Canada Cadette managed to drop 14 on her east coast oponenets.
