Canada Basketball Nationals: midway recap & standouts
The Canada Basketball Boys National Tournament has kicked off in Sherbrooke, Quebec. At the midway point of the 6 day event, we’ve been able to see top basketball talent each Province has to offer in the 17U & 15U division. Below we quickly recap each division & the standouts.
17U
All eyes on the 17U Division going into this tournament. The crop of talent entering the final stage of their high school careers & for many of them, futures of NCAA D1/D2, USPORT/CCAA & even Pro careers on the horizon.
The team to beat so far hails from the West Coast. British Columbia came out swinging taking down the two heavyweights Quebec & Ontario. Up tempo style of play with versatility, depth, & great coaching. All the tools to go all the way.
Here are the standouts in the early stage of the Tournament
15U
The future of Canadian Basketball is bright. In particular, the C/O 2027 might be the most promising Class we’ve seen in a long time. Names like Paul Osaruyi & Kymani Walters leading Ontario to an undefeated start & doing so in fashion winning both games by a ridiculous combined total of 96. Heavy favourites.
Can’t talk about the 15U division without giving a shoutout to Newfoundland’s Ryder English who’s averaged 31ppg in the first 3 games. Coming off a strong CNIT, easily one of the top scorers in the country.
