Ottawa dominates at NPHShowcase League Playoffs

Not 1, not 2, but 3 out of 3 NPHShowcase League Championships were won by Ottawa teams this past weekend

The Grade 7, 8, & 9 playoffs took place this past weekend at NPH HQ & we saw the GCBA Wolverines & Ottawa Elite take care of business. Ottawa Elite’s Grade 8 & 9 teams won their respective divisions while the GCBA Wolverines won the Grade 7.

Grade 7 Division

GCBA Wolverines & Burloak Elite were the final two teams standing in the 7th grade division. From the jump, GCBA were applying high level defensive pressure running a full-court press that forced many turnovers and led to easy baskets. After starting strong, they never looked back and ended up winning by double-digits.

The MVP was awarded to Yannis Komy who put up an impressive 19 points 8 rebounds 2 assists 2 steals and a block

Grade 8 Division

The 8th Grade Division Championship between Ottawa Elite & S-Elite started off as a close one in the first half. After going down 10, S-Elite came back and took a 3pt lead in the second half. At that point, Ottawa Elite turned it up on defence and started converting on offence hitting shot after shot. They took a double digit lead and ran away with it.

Frankie Pongu put up one of the craziest stat-lines of the season winning the MVP finishing with 10 points, 18 rebounds, & 7 assists.

Grade 9 Division

One of the most competitive divisions in this seasons NPHShowcase League, but it wasn’t much of a surprise to see Ottawa Elite & Guelph Knights as the remaining 2 teams in the final. This game started off tight with both teams playing tough defence. What both teams have in common are they both play as a unit, and any given player can step up for a big game. With both teams struggling to score in the first half, Ottawa Elite caught fire right at the perfect time in the second half and when they did they couldn’t miss.

MVP was awarded to Mac Junior Jean-Marie who finished with 13 points 8 rebounds & 4 assists
