TOP 30 CCAA Team Rankings By Bill Crowdis – November 18, 2015
We are now past the halfway mark of the first semester and our coverage of the Top 30 rankings is now into week #4.
1-10 – Our top six has seen no movement after almost a month of basketball, even though some teams have been taken to the wire on several occasions. New to the Top 10 we have Champlain representing the RSEQ and La Cite becomes the first OCAA East team to make the list. Lambton and Keyano both move up a spot with NAIT dropping out along with Humber.
11-20 – Two teams from the ACAA enter the Top 20, with Crandall and UKC both sporting 4-0 league records. Teams on the rise include John Abbott, who gave Vanier their first loss of the young season as well as Langara, who pulled out two close games against Capilano and Douglas. Medicine Hat took care of their game against SAIT, however St Lawrence wasn’t so lucky, having taken a loss to rival Loyalist and dropping out if the Top 20.
21-30 – Lots of action rounding out our top 30 this past week. We see the ACAC’s Lakeland and Kings enter for the first time with wins over NAIT and Concordia respectively. There were three teams that took loses over the weekend, but still saw their ranking go up. Niagara took #5 Sheridan into overtime before losing by a bucket. Mount Allison lossed to #18 Crandall but rebounded with a win over STU. Olds had an interesting weekend getting upset by Ambrose and following that up with their own upset of Lethbridge. Algonquin has used solid defence over the course of the season, good for 2nd place in the OCAA East–the biggest rise on this weeks list.
Player of the Week
Player of the Week goes to Ian Tevis of Red Deer, who averaged a 32.5ppg, 6.5rpg, 2apg in wins over Lethbridge and Ambrose.
