1loveT.O. Captures Inaugural Nike Crown League Championship

Dwayne Smith was an absolute monster.

Smith notched 17 points as 1loveT.O. was able to beat out Ace 53-49 to win the inaugural Nike Crown League title.

In the 32 degree packed Jarvis Collegiate Institute gym, it almost seemed as if the George Washington alum was energized, not deflated by the heat.

The six foot five Smith was able control the glass and also hit timely buckets, including a dagger three-point basket with under 3 minutes left to stop a 7-0 Ace run with.

For his efforts, Smith was also named the #CrownLeague player of the week.

1loveTO was able to jump all over Ace leading 18 to 6 within the first 6 minutes of the game.

Tut Ruach and Marvell Waithe also had vast contributions scoring 12 and 10 points respectively.

Ace struggled all game to find a consistent flow to the game as they started off with multiple turnovers, and missed close range shots.

To their credit, however, they kept fighting, even at times turning to a trapping, and full court defense to try and switch the tempo of the game.

Shaquille Keith was part of this plan, as his aggressive takes, good defense, and positive play allowed for Ace to shift momentum.

Halifax Rainman forward Tyrone Watson also put in a solid effort, especially on the defensive end laying out his body and taking charges.

The duo combined to score 19 of Ace’s 49 points.

This was a very competitive affair with players, at times, jawing at each other and, at other times, getting physical during dead ball situations.

The #CrownLeague debut in Toronto was a smashing success, and definitely something the entire Canadian basketball community can get used to looking forward towards.
