Womens Nationals U15 Gold Medal Game
The 1st gold medal game of the evening featured Team Ontario and Team Quebec as both were the top ranked teams coming into tonight’s contest. They had met previously in the tournament and Ontario was victorious. The second time they met it was a similar story as Ontario defeated Quebec 76-59.
Ontario started the game off with a high tempo and Quebec was unable to respond taking a 20-6 scoring run, with Bridget Carleton and Kia Nurse leading the way. Christina Buttenham ended the quarter with a monster block and four straight points giving Ontario a 19 point lead going into the 2nd quarter.
In the 2nd quarter Quebec regained their focus and was able to counter Ontario’s attack and match it with their own comeback making their deficit only nine points at half.
Opening the 2nd half, Quebec started out with three steals, two of which they converted on. Their momentum was however lost after two back to back three pointers by Ontario. The finalists would trade buckets in the 3rd quarter with Ontario taking a large lead again coming into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
The 4th quarter would be another Ontario quarter as they pulled away even further earning Ontario the Gold Medal. In the end Ontario was too much for Quebec to handle.
Ontario was led on the scoreboard by Kia Nurse and Mikalah Mulrain who both scored 17 points each. Kia Nurse also added 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Mikalah Mulrain was dominant on the boards grabbing 19 rebounds with 10 of them being offensive. Christina Buttenham had a dominant defensive game and was also effective on the offense as well.
