MISSISSAUGA, ON–NPH, NorthPoleHoops.com is proud to announce that it will be providing extensive coverage on UTM’s men and women summer leagues. The league boasts a beautiful state of the art facility, comprehensive statistics and high level competition.
The University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM) has been host to one of the GTA’s elite summer leagues for over 30 years. Its longevity has been sustained due to the high caliber talent that has come back year after year to battle for the number one spot. This summer is no different, as there is a return of CIS, CCAA, as well as other top talents that have affected the face of basketball in the Greater Toronto Area.
In the last decade, some of the big names that have dominated this league as individuals are; Tut Rauch who is a former York Lion and currently plays for CRE Itzehoe Eagles of the German Basketball League; 2008-2009 OUA East Rookie of the Year, David Tyndale, and finally Brady Heslip who broke the regular season scoring record with 38 ppg at UTM’s Summer League. Heslip will not be playing in this year’s summer league as he will be preparing for the upcoming NCAA season with the Baylor Bears.
For all teams that play in this league, the ultimate goal does not end with taking gold at the end of the summer. Once UTM’s finals have come to an end, the winner from this league will go on to play against the first place team from UTSC’s league (Scarborough), and it doesn’t end there. The summer makes its finale at the University of Toronto where the winners from the UTM and UTSC league will battle it out with the UofT title holders.
League convenor Jack Krist is amped about this year’s league and is dedicated to keeping it a top notch place to play during the summer. He has a solid reputation in the basketball community and is confident that UTM’s summer league will continue to provide a base for top talents to compete at for years to come.
