NPHShowcase League Championship Recap

Grade 12 Champions: Strive Hoops

Strive Hoops came back reloaded with a roster stronger than ever for this season. Returning players like Imisi Motunde, Isaac Lopez, Alex Facey were all big contributors throughout the season. On top of this they saw a lot of production from their new recruit and Finals MVP Raequon Pryce (Western commit). They took down a strong Simcoe United team who were undefeated in an entertaining Championship game. The game was tight the whole time. Ultimately Strive would win 66-63 behind the all-around play of Raequon Pryce winning finals MVP.

Grade 11 Champions: North Toronto Huskies

North Toronto saw a full-team effort in their 64-58 Championship win over Strive Hoops. MVP Mason Franco Deryck contributed 16 points, Oliver Groh pitched in with 16 points as well, & Parker Sinclair provided some high level defence throughout the game which played a major role in the Huskies securing the victory and ultimately the championship. They were the best team in their division all season long holding an 11-1 record going into playoffs, and this Championship win only cemented that.

Grade 10: Cadougan Elite

The same team that won last year’s Grade 9 Championship have now secured the Grade 10 Division Championship. Reigning MVP Harmony Okojie led the team in scoring with 20 points, but this time it would be their PG Kaden Jonas taking home MVP. He is the engine that makes them go. Put up 14 points and set the table for his team all game. Will this same team be pulling off a 3-peat? They definitely have what it takes.

Grade 9: GBU

This might’ve been the game of the season. Grade 9 Championship game between GBU and Cadougan Elite went down to the wire. After trailing for most of the game, GBU never showed any quit. They were able to put together multiple stops, force a number of turnovers, get easy transition buckets and ultimately steal momentum of the game. For a first year program, you can’t possibly write a better ending to their story. Finals MVP Michael Smith finished with 15 points and led them with energy and activity on the offensive glass. Matthew Appiah was extremely solid adding 15 points as well, & Jackson Perry had 14 points including some big shots down the stretch.

Grade 8: Royal Crown

Arguably the most dominant season from a team in NPHShowcase League History. After going an undefeated 12-0 in the regular season while stream-rolling every team, Royal Crown did a lot of the same in the Grade 8 Championship game winning 57-20 over RWI. The level of skill on this team at such a young age is great to see and is a testiment to the organization of the program as a whole. It will be very interesting to continue to track the development of these players. Nicholas Wuthrich wins MVP putting up 17 points.
