Canada Releases U-17 Roster for FIBA World Cup
The roster for the team that will represent Canada in the Fiba U-17’s World Cup next month has been released.
Among the names that have been added to the roster are NPH #1 ranked 2020 Addison Patterson of Athlete Institute, who just finished representing Canada at the U-18 America’s earlier this month in St. Catherines, and #2 ranked class of 2021 Charles Bediako of Ridley College, who also represented Canada for that event.
Also a part of the roster is NPH #3 ranked Josh Hemmings out of Oak Hill Academy, and the top NPH ranked player out of Quebec in Tre-Vaughn Minott out of Ecole Secondaire St-Laurent Edifice Emile-Legault.
Canada will be looking to improve upon their 5th place finish from back in 2016, with a roster that included current Duke commit RJ Barrett and Michigan commit Ignas Brazdeikas.
The coaching staff this time around will be headed up by University of Manitoba Head Coach Kirby Schepp. This will be Schepp’s second time as head coach for a Canadian team, with his coaching debut coming back in April at the Commonwealth Games, where Canada earned a silver medal.
Canada will be in Group C and will face Montenegro, Egypt and New Zealand in the group phase of the tournament, tipping-off against Montenegro on June 30 at 2:15 PM.
Following pre-competition training in Mexico City, the team will travel to Argentina for an additional training camp from June 23 to the 27th ahead of the FIBA U-17 World Cup.
