Stars Shine Bright at Windsor NPH Showcase

This past weekend was nothing short of incredible when looking into the vast amount of talent within the basketball community in and around the Windsor-Essex region.

80 plus basketball players filled the University of Windsor as they all competed through out the weekend learning, testing and gauging themselves against their peers on the totem pole.

In the middle school Junior Showcase (grades 6-8) it was C/O 2023 Andrew Loyuk that took home the camp MVP. Loyuk has been a very impressive prospect as his on ball skills and wide frame body are a perfect match.

Through some spectacular spin moves, hesitation, and solid decisions in the pick and roll Loyuk has the ball on a string and a physic to bully players on his way to the rim.

The breakout player on the camp for the Junior age division was C/O 2023 Malachi McDevitt as his commitment to defense, athleticism, and competitive attitude carried him throughout. As McDevitt continues to work on his guard skills he will be a nightmare entering highschool.

C/O 2023 Quinn Carey and Kiano Leagult-Elliot are two point guards that have show steady signs of progression throughout the past year.

Carey has a tireless work ethic, getting a pre work out in 2 hours before camp on the Sunday as he arrived at 7 am to get some shots up. Carey is a high IQ guard who always makes the right play, rarely turns the ball over and can stroke the outside jumper.

Leagult-Elliot was one of the purest point guards at the Windsor camp – regardless of age. Kiano was able to make plays through the pick and roll consistently, hit the open shot, and had a very good on the ball dribble package with multiple fakes and herky jerky moves.

C/O 2023 Aiden Bishop and Tate Wilkins are two new players that were discovered at the showcase.

Bishop is a speedy left-hander that can get around basically anyone with his stop and go action. Wilkins is an athletic 6 footer who thrived in the open court finishing and had some monster chase down blocks.

On the girl’s end, the showcase had 9 players who competed, learned, and gained valuable experience.

The top 4 girls participated in the All-Star Junior Boys Game; 2021 twins Jamilah and Ashanti Christian, 2021 Hayley Woods, and 2021 Adele Culverwell.

Woods led her boys team in scoring and was extremely clutch at the end of the game earning the NPH Showcase Girls Camp MVP; Woods demonstrated defensive instincts and versatility scoring the ball.

The Christian twins showcased their fluidity with the ball and their ease facilitating the game for their team and getting to the rim. Adele used her length to alter shots and rebound, and offensively got some solid looks from the arc.

Elias Sbiet will have the grade 9-12 recap released for tomorrow on NorthPoleHoops.com.
