The NPA National Championship is here… Who Will Take the Crown?

The NPA National Championship is set to begin on Mar. 1 inside Sheridan College in Brampton, ON.

We have waited all season for this upcoming weekend, where all the best Prep school talent across Canada is inside one gymnasium fighting for the right to call themselves National Champions.

Notre Dame Hounds

The Notre Dame Hounds finished the regular season 8-0, claiming the No. 1 seed. The Dynamic Duo of Fofo Adetogun and Jashon Henry has been unstoppable all season, can a team contain them now?

Central Tech Blues

Thanks to a thrilling 77-75 win over Canada Topflight Academy in the New Year Challenge, the Central Tech Blues finish as the second seed. Their impressive 11-1 record has been fueled by their gritty mentality and they look hungry to claim the crown.

Canada Topflight Academy

The defending champions drop to the No. 3 seed also with an 11-1 record. It will take a special effort to knock CTA off their crown. They have the talent and the knowledge to win another National Championship.

GTA Prep

GTA Prep rounds out the top 4, finishing with a 9-3 record. AJ Lawson is the No.1 prospect for the class of 2019 for a reason. However, this GTA Prep team is more than a one man show. They are built to make a deep run in the National Championship.

Day One Match-ups

B.E.A.S.T. Prep (8) VS Rothesay Netherwood (9) – Mar. 1 @ 11:30 AM

The No. 8 vs No. 9 is always an intriguing match-up and this one should not disappoint. Both B.E.A.S.T and RNS finished the season with a 4-8 record. The team from Hamilton will have to find a way to contain RNS’s 1-2 punch of Shyheim Malcolm and Kellen Tynes if they are to have a chance to move on.

Toronto Basketball Academy (7) VS BC Christian Prep (10) – Mar. 1 @ 1:30 PM

TBA is a team hungry for revenge after losing to the eventual champions last year in the Semi-finals. Their talent level is much better than what their record shows. Finishing 6-6 on the season can feel like a disappointment but that can all be forgotten with a run in the National Championship. BC Prep will need huge numbers from their star Sammie Hunter in order to keep this game close and maybe have a shot at a huge upset.

London Basketball Academy (6) VS SJK (11) – Mar. 1 @ 3:30 PM

LBA will never be counted out after last season’s run to the Finals where they came up just short against CTA. Denzel Cummins has become a star this season and his great supporting cast of Okay Djamgouz and Josh Inkumsah has made this team very dangerous. LBA is poised to create more magical moments in this tournament but will first have to defeat a hard nosed SJK squad.

Crestwood Prep (5) VS St-Laurent Express (12) – Mar. 1 @ 5:30 PM

Crestwood Prep is another team you don’t want to see as your opponent. They are led by The Bahamian bucket machine, Franco Miller and standout point guard Jahcobi Neath with rising star Elijah Fisher coming of the bench. Crestwood finished with a 7-5 record during the regular season and get to play St-Laurent Express in the first round. The Express sneaked into the National Championship with a 2-10 record edging out Halifax Prep (1-11). During the Montreal session, they defeated Halifax Prep and then came up with a huge 67-66 win against RNS.

The regular season is over, the bracket is set and now it’s time to see which players and teams can rise to the occasion. Can CTA repeat? Will the Hounds stay undefeated and take the crown? Who will be the Cinderella story this year?

Come down to Sheridan College from Mar. 1-4 or watch the live streams at www.northpolehoops.com to find out.
