Union East Able to Stay Undefeated in Signature League
Elijah Fisher scored 22 and Jaden Langley-Thomas chipped in 18 points as Union East took advantage of a big second half beating the Mississauga Monarchs 71-60.
Langley-Thomas, a top 25 scorer in this year signature league at 8 PPG, almost doubled that scoring output in the third alone potting in 14 points, including two threes.
That was also the quarter where union was able to take control back from the monarchs, outscoring them 25-14.
Acting as a spark plug for Union, Langley-Thomas made sure that the third quarter would be better then the second were Union managed only 7 points.
With a flurry of off the dribble pull ups, Langley-Thomas also dissected his way to the basket scoring off of easy lay ups in the lane, and from the land beyond.
This 2023 guard is one of the top scorers in the class along with one of the hardest working players, and, looking forward to next year, his skills will seamlessly mesh in high school, as his scoring touch is lethal.
Fisher, on the other hand, did most of his damage in the fourth quarter as the 2024 forward sealed the fate of the Monarchs working inside on missed free-throw eventually snatching the offensive rebound and going and one.
However, the monarchs were within striking distance in fourth with 2:30 left in frame only down 62-58, Myles MacArthur would end up missing a three pointer that would have put the game within a point in the final two minutes.
Will Hatcher of the monarchs also played well as the wing scored a game hit 21 points, 9 in the final quarter.
Looking into the standings and Union still stands undefeated, with Vaughan and Mississauga a close second and third.
Vaughan and Mississauga will face-off against one another next session with the Panthers one-upping the monarchs last time they played, 83-78.
In the grade seven division, the teams are as close as can be, with both Brothers Keeper and SBA Willock both at 8-2 at a lock for the number one spot.
There was an upset, as the 5-5 Mississauga Monarchs beat out NuStep Ballers 61-48 behind the frontcourt of Vytas Nausedas and Junior Poyser.
Nausedas played well as the big man affected the game on both ends putting up 13 points, including 8 in the first half, all the while playing solid defense consistently looking to get the charge call.
Nausedas is a very blue collar player who Is rarely seen complaining about any call, and does not shy away from contact, not being afraid to mix it up when he has too.
Poyser scored 9 of his 11 points in the second half, as the big man way very patient, and used a very deceptive drop step to get opponents up in the air, coming up with three and one opportunities.
NuStep had a off game, as they were never able to establish the pace and tempo they consistently like to play at, while uncharacteristically shooting poorly from the three point line.
NuStep usually receives 45 PPGS from the highest scoring trio in the seventh grade division Quinton Martin Angelo Vega and Kailon Nicholls. However, in this contest they only had 17, 13 and 9 points receptively.
The final session of Signature League will take place on February 11th in Mississauga, ON.
