Marcus Ottey Narrows Down List To Three Schools
The attention and buzz that Marcus Ottey has received over the course of the 2015-2016 season at Spire Academy is fitting and deserving considering the growth in his skill set in one season.
Ottey had interest building from last summer when Canada Elite made it to the Under Armour Finals. Coaches kept track and interest became offers, and offers became daily communication to build a relationship. TheCanadian guard’s bolting up and down style and athleticism could not be ignored.
As 2015 whined down, Ottey’s name really blew up after a terrific performance at the National Prep Showcase in New Haven, Connecticut; where offers piled on shortly after. Today he has cut down his list to the University of Nebraska, Cincinatti and the University of Illinois at Chicago; all of which have complimentary playing styles to Ottey’s game.
Ottey’s drastically improved three point shooting ability is making him a viable threat from distance. He’s now more of a weapon in the half court set.
Selfishly, the thought of a reunion between Marcus Ottey and Godwin Boehen, a recent UIC commit and AAU teammate for years, is now becoming a realer possibility as they make Ottey’s top three.
With all the lob action and high tempo offense of Cincinnati, Ottey can’t help but entertain the thought of being a Bearcat. It fits who he is as a player.
Then of course there’s a chance to be a major piece to the puzzle with a struggling Nebraska in the BIG 10. A visit is going to be set up for this month.
We’ll continue to keep tabs on this class of Canadians as they wrap up and get ready to make a decision.
