Drake, Raptors Unveil New Uniforms
After several leaks, 2K screenshots, tweets, and speculation the 2015-16 Toronto Raptors uniform was unveiled onstage by Drake at his OVO Fest show.
Drake showed off an alternate version of the Cory Joseph jersey with the symbolic number “6.”
It’s one of four colourways that will be worn by the new-look Raptors starting this fall, along with home white, away red, and another black alternate with gold trim that’s a tribute to Drake’s OVO brand.
Embracing the “We The North” identity, the font of the jersey (“We the Letters”) was created specifically for the Raptors.
Another shift is the omission of the word Toronto on the front of any of the jerseys. It’s a move towards marketing themselves as Canada’s team and extend their reach. Previously their black alternate jersey had TORONTO across the front.
A more subtle nod to the CN Tower city is on the shorts where the side is stitched in a T-shape with the Raptors new Clawed Ball logo below it signifying “T.O.”
The names on the back of the jersey are arched rather than straight, and the actual mesh material is improved and streamlined.
Purple accents are also gone from the new iteration of the uniform as the team moves on from celebrating their past in their 20th anniversary season and prepares for a new era and hosting the All-Star game in February.
