Day 1- Pitt Jam Fest – Team Nova Scotia Comes Correct
PITTSBURGH, PA–The proximity of Hoop Group’s, Pitt Jam Fest attracts Canadian club teams and AAU programs to go across the border on a yearly basis during the NCAA’s only Live Period for recruiting in the spring.
By this time NCAA coaches have attended numerous high school games, tournaments, workouts and practices; and have targeted and expressed interest in prospects that their universities are pursuing…Except for the Canadians.
New faces and bodies they’ve never seen before have coaches wondering if the North is stirring up another batch of NCAA talent. That wonder turned into interest very quickly after sitting down to evaluate at a Northern Kings and Team Nova Scotia game.
Who’s this guy? What level can he play at? Does he have the grades? Has he written his SAT? Who else is interested or offered?
On day one at #PittJamFest, multiple Canadians picked up new interest which could likely turn to offers considering they continue to play at a high level throughout the rest of the AAU season.
Kareem South of the Northern Kings is a high academic student-athlete that has received an offer from NCAA D1 program St. Francis University and garnered interest from the IVY league.
Recent NPH Showcase MVP from Nova Scotia, Dakelle Brooks impressed coaches with his ability to handle pressure and blow by defenders. Teammates Johneil Johnson and Chris Towle also stood out along with a few others.
Team Nova Scotia was able to shine as individuals because they played as a unit and got the best available shot on most possessions. They got a shot in the Steel Bracket if they can continue to play this style of unselfish basketball. A win on day one with a well a balanced score sheet should suffice for a similar performance today.
