HALIFAX,NS–History was made today as a National Canadian Basketball league was announced, referred to as the NBL from this point on!

That’s right, the first ever national professional basketball league in Canada has arrived.

A domestic league of this nature has been a long time coming, and with the progress that Canadian basketball has made, especially in the last two years, it makes perfect sense.

“This is a great day for the country…This is definitely history in the making,” professed Andre Levingston, Interim CEO of the league.

The NBL will be run similar to how current major leagues approach operations, in that this Canadian league will have paid players, official drafts and travelling teams playing in major facilities.

There will be a mandate for each team outlining Canadian content for each franchise, however the number has not yet been announced. Players will be drafted from the CIS, CCAA, Canada’s college and university leagues!

Young elite Canadian players now have a new opportunity to utilize their talent and take it to a professional level. In short, the time has ended where wasted talent is an issue; the future is bright Canada, keep the dream alive!
