NPH D1 Scholastic Standouts
The NPH D1 Scholastic event this past weekend brought together top programs and prospects from across the country, showcasing next-level talent and depth in the 2026–2029 classes. Evaluations focused on identifying high-academic D1 prospects, breakout underclassmen, and potential risers heading into the season.
Soren Nicholson (2027 | 6’4 G | J. Addison)
Nicholson had a standout weekend, averaging 26 points per game across two contests, highlighted by a 34-point performance where he shot 12-20 from the field, 2-4 from three, and was perfect (8-8) from the line.
He’s an explosive guard with a high motor and relentless approach on both ends. Nicholson thrives as an aggressive scorer who’s becoming more refined in his guard play — particularly in his ability to create and make reads out of the pick-and-roll. His competitiveness and energy make him a clear riser in Canada’s 2027 class.
Noah Hanson (2027 | 6’0 PG | Tall Pines Academy)
Hanson was one of the weekend’s most dynamic scorers, averaging 27.3 points per game over three outings. He was a flamethrower from deep, knocking down 17 of 32 (53%) from three, including a 25-point first half en route to a 35-point game.
A natural shot-maker with elite confidence, Hanson excels in off-the-dribble shooting and spacing the floor. His ability to get hot in a hurry makes him one of the most dangerous perimeter threats in his class.
Kaiden Thomas (2027 | 6’2 G | St. Jude Academy)
A consistent performer over the years, Thomas once again impressed at the NPH Showcase. He posted back-to-back 20+ point games, showing the ability to hit big shots, defend multiple positions, and maintain composure throughout.
Thomas is a steady two-way guard who competes at a high level on both ends and displays strong leadership qualities. His 4.0 GPA highlights his discipline and intelligence — translating well to his decision-making on the court.
Mamadou Sacko (2026 | 6’9 F/C | Uchenna Academy)
Sacko was a dominant interior presence, averaging 23 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in two outings. The Congo native showcased impressive touch within 15 feet, combining soft shooting mechanics with strong mobility and rim protection.
With his blend of length, athleticism, and developing skill, Sacko projects as a modern big with long-term upside. His tools and instincts make him a prospect to track closely moving forward.
Grayson Ritzand (2027 | 6’5 G | Uchenna Academy)
Ritzand impressed as one of the most efficient perimeter shooters of the weekend, averaging 18.5 points per game while shooting 43% from three (14 attempts). A three-point marksman with a Division I frame, Ritzand plays with confidence and a scorer’s mentality — “shoots first, asks questions later.”
He’s already had multiple 30+ point games early in the Prep season, showing consistency and range. Strong student as well, balancing production and academics with maturity beyond his years.
Dwayne Smith Jr (2026 | 6’4 G | Ascend Prep)
Smith Jr’s slashing ability stood out at the Showcase. The lefty guard is physical and relentless attacking downhill, consistently applying pressure on the rim and finishing through contact. His quick first step and strength make him a tough cover in isolation.
If he continues to progress as a shooter, Smith Jr has the potential to become one of the most well-rounded guards in his class. His experience with EYBL competition has clearly sharpened his game and confidence.
Sekou Tunkara (2027 | 6’7 F | Uchenna Academy)
Tunkara is a lengthy forward with impressive fluidity and coordination for his size. He’s shown notable growth in his offensive polish, highlighted by his ability to create and hit shots off the dribble. Played EYCL with UPLAY over the summer, gaining valuable high-level experience. Possesses real two-way upside with the physical tools and developing skillset to be a long-term prospect to watch.
Trust Odia (2027 | 6’6 F | Father Henry Carr)
Odia is a strong, physical forward who imposes his will around the basket. Uses his strength effectively to finish through contact and control the paint on both ends. A reliable inside scorer with a developing face-up game, Odia’s toughness and rebounding presence make him a consistent impact player.
Kaden Jonas (2027 | 6’1 PG | Father Henry Carr)
Jonas is a crafty point guard who excels at creating off the dribble and making plays for teammates. Displays great feel and pace, keeping defenders off balance with his handle and change of direction. Capable scorer from multiple levels and a steady floor general who competes on both ends.
Matt Loucks (2026 | 6’6 Wing | Ascend Prep)
Loucks is a versatile perimeter wing with good size, length, and feel for the game. Averaged 13 points per game while shooting efficiently from three, showcasing a smooth release and confidence as a spot-up shooter. Brings a blend of skill and athleticism, allowing him to contribute as a scorer, rebounder, and defender across multiple positions.
Leo Morrow-Brown (2029 | 6’7 Wing | J Addison)
Hailing from UK, this young Prospect presents a lot of intrigue with his size at his age, plus the fact he’s already playing up 3 years. He will be a key development piece for this team, and will continue to improve as the season progresses.
