NPA National Championship Ranking Released, Ahead of Tournament March 21-24.
NPA National Championships Seeding
*Records are based off official NPA season games and NPA approved games.*
1) Fort Erie RED (7-0 | Fort Erie, Ontario)
When considering above criteria, overall performance throughout the season, & pedigree of roster, FEIA Red IBSA earned the #1 seed based on consistency throughout the season in their overall performance (both in & outside of NPA scheduled games) having lost only two games in Canada, despite being injury riddled all year. (Lost to OSBA champion Royal Crown, and Quebec’s Dynastie). Fort Erie Red is Undefeated in NPA at 7-0 + strength of schedule is most impressive among top-3 seeds.
2) Polaris Prep (8-0 | Burlington, Ontario)
Undefeated in NPA at 8-0 but have yet to play FEIA Red or Royal Crown in NPA competition. A formidable and well coached, veteran squad that have the pieces to win it all—a program knocking on the door. However, they did suffer a loss to Royal Crown early in the season at Grind Session. Regardless, their dominant play and best NPA record earns them the #2 spot.
3) Royal Crown (3-4 | Scarborough, Ontario)
A team that has transformed and progressed throughout the season and find themselves peaking at the perfect time—Speaking to strong coaching and leadership. It’s March. Where they were in November, was a completely different story—RC started slow with losses to #9 RNS & #11 LBA. Their other two losses come at the hands of #1 & #6 – both of which are capable of going all the way. But no matter how you put it, Coming off back to back OSBA Championships, the Lions are a dangerous team, with championship pedigree, that will get everyone’s best.
4) CSJV International (9-5 | Montreal, Quebec)
Arguably the hottest team heading into Nationals with new additions + current 5-game NPA winning streak. The dark horse, a dangerous team that could win it all. Have played most NPA games and have proven to out-perform teams ranked below them. Had #1 Fort Erie Red on the ropes late in the game, but ultimately lost a close one losing 62-59 in NPA Session #2.
5) NorthStar (5-6 | Winnipeg, Manitoba)
Don’t let Northstar’s record fool you. Had one of the toughest schedules, squaring off against the top teams in the league. Defeated #6 Fort Erie 74-70 + played more NPA games, including competitive bouts against #4 CSJV, #1 Fort Erie Red (playing even for 3 quarters). The Winnipeg contingent will go as far as budding forward Shadrak Lasu takes them on both ends of the floor.
6) Fort Erie International (3-2 | Fort Erie, Ontario)
Lost to all the teams above, and beat teams below. Losses to Northstar & Polaris Prep in NPA-session, most notable win against Royal Crown outside of NPA. A very dangerous team, not to be underestimated. Lead by Farleigh Dickinson commit Chidube Ekwammadu, two-way beast, 7-footer Matt Dann and a deep roster, this team has the pieces to beat anyone in the country.
7) Edge School (5-7 | Calgary, AB)
Have wins against RNS, Lincoln, and went 1-1 against Ridley with a better overall record. Have made a big roster addition with Shem Swawy— the leading scorer of the NPA (21 PPG) breaking out in the last session. Coupled with #5 leading scorer Cole Bekkering (18.5 PPG) and national program big man Patrick Anamali, don’t look at their seed…just be ready to compete.
8) Ridley College (4-5 | St Catharines, ON)
Beat RNS & Lincoln, took losses against above teams. Youngest team in the league with PG Caleb Roberts, who is arguably the fastest rising lead guard in the Nation. Host team, with a home crowd backing them, who knows what could happen.
9) Rothesay Netherwood (3-8 | Rothesay, New Brunswick)
Lost a lot of close ones after big win vs #3 Royal Crown, and finish season 3-8. A team you don’t want to see in the first round, play tough, don’t quit and are capable of getting hot from deep and any moment.
10) Lincoln Prep (2-7 | Hamilton, ON)
It all depends on which Lincoln Prep team shows up at NPA Nationals. The story of the season has been up and down with flashes of toughness shown, scoring in bunches in some games, but also displaying glaring gaps in their defense by giving up 90+ points in five of their nine games. Let’s see which team shows up.
11) London Basketball Academy (1-7 | London, ON)
The only win on LBA’s season is against #3 Royal Crown 83-81, the reigning back to back OSBA champions. It says a lot about the NPA when any team can beat any team, on any given night…and in the case of LBA, their pedigree boasts a rich history of strong coaching, development and getting players to the next level. Five of their eight games on the season have been within a six point margin. If you’re facing LBA in the first round, do yourself a favour and don’t look at the record, just come correct.
