Canletes 2018 Ontario High School All-Star Game
The 3rd Annual Canletes High School All-Star Game took place on Saturday at Humber College. Canletes Founder and St-FX 1st-year Head Coach Lee Anna Osei was able to travel and be in attendance for the event, presenting awards and recruiting for the new direction of the program.
The day started with a junior matchup between Crestwood’s Jr squad and Coach Breedy’s SBA Blues Juel Prep. SBA came out with a tough 33-27 victory, Ruqaya Green earning MVP honors for her impressive performance. Crestwood Center Schymera Samuels was unstoppable inside; rebounding, blocking shots and scoring at the rim, earning MVP honors for her squad.

The 2018 All-Star Game was a thriller, Team Blue pulled away 60-54 with an MVP performance from a versatile and dynamic 2021 Kaya Charles; she plays well in the open court, scores with versatility and is impactful on the defensive end. She finished with 16 points. Team White’s 2022 PG and NPH Showcase Alum Alexis Rosario was on fire from beyond the arc, knocking down five 3 balls and racking up a couple assists. Teammate and Canletes Player of the Year Claire Sutherland-Case racked up 14 points to add on the board for Team White.

2021 G Ruqaya Green, SBA BLues Juel Prep; Long and lengthy athlete who steps around the D and reaches over traffic to score off penetration, finishes both ways. Jumps passing lanes and anticipates well defensively.

The Canada Basketball Women’s High Performance Age-Group Assessment Camp ran from Friday until Tuesday morning, the high level coaches and athletes on the court twice a day competing, teaching, learning and growing the game.

2021 SF Marijke Duralia; St. John Breboeuf, BC: Crafty and versatile scoring forward, cerebral offensively. Knows how to use her body to protect her shot and finish through contact in traffic.
2022 PG Louella Allana; St-Laurent, QC: Tough vocal PG with great vision and the ability to create off the bounce. Shoots the 3 ball, scores at the rim and distributes off penetration. Tough on ball defender.
She Got Game Classic
Five Canadian teams travelled to District Heights, MD for the Annual She Got Game Classic. Some were short on players due to the Canada Basketball Assessment Camp, but teams competed and improved over the weekend.
Redmond completed their weekend 1-1, beating Gerstell Academy, MD (49-27) and losing o St Vincent Pallotti, MD (33-73).
Niagara beat Capital Christian, MD (63-33) and St Andrews Episcopal, MD (47-37), but finished off with a tough loss to St-Mary’s Ryken, MD (32-36). Watch their game against St Andrews Episcopal here! They were missing 2020 PG Sarah Te-Biasu and 2021 F Lauren Audino.
Durham lost to Abington Friends, PA (45-65) and beat West Oaks Academy, FL (59-56) and Peddie School, NJ (53-7). On Friday December 21st, Durham Elite will face off against Vaughan at 4 pm in the Inaugural UOIT Ridgebacks Holiday Basketball Showcase.

J Addison lost to Westridge Academy, NC (46-62), Putnam Science, CT (41-45) and finished off with a win against Capital Christian, MD (67-38). Canadian Center and Rhode Island commit Xianna Josephs is on Putnam’s 2018-2019 Roster. J Addison was missing 2022 G Mary Asare. On Friday December 21st, J Addison will face off against Lincoln Prep at 2 pm in the Inaugural UOIT Ridgebacks Holiday Basketball Showcase.
St-Laurent’s missing 2022 PG Louella Allana and 2022 F Kiandra Browne were significant this weekend. Xpress lost all three games to Putnam Science, CT (51-64), Bishop O’Connell, VA (38-47) and Roland Park, MD (42-56). This squad has a quick turnaround and will be traveling to Greensboro for the Under Armour Classic Dec 21-23 and Title IX in Washington Dec 27-29.
