Vaughan Voyageurs Still the Team To Beat In Canada Despite Loss of Andrew Wiggins!

TORONTO, ON–The Vaughan Voyageur’s took care of business Saturday night capturing gold over Pickering High School with a 60-44 victory.

The Voyageur’s came out firing on all cylinders from the get go, playing a very unselfish, team orientated brand of basketball that would make any coach proud. Vaughan’s ability to attack the basket and get to the charity stripe paid dividends as they went into the second quarter leading 15-4.

The second quarter was no different from the first as efficient ball movement and the ability to knock down the three left Pickering puzzled on the defensive end. Vaughan was consistently able to break Pickering’s full court press which in turn allowed for easy transition buckets. The Voyageur’s went into halftime leading 28-11.

Vaughan continued to impose their will in the second half overpowering Pickering in the post and shooting well from the field. The Voyageur’s largest lead came at the end of the third quarter where they were up by a staggering 19 points.

“We had to play a clean style of basketball and limit our mistakes” Coach Gus Gymnopoulos told NPH. “Pickering is very quick and athletic and basically we wanted them to play our style of basketball.”

Vaughan’s Montaque Gill had a solid showing chipping in with eight points, showing great hands and a soft touch around the rim.

Pickering’s Jalen Griffith’s did his best Josh Smith impression by using his tremendous athletic ability to dominate his opponents at will. He finished with 14 points for the game and had an exhilarating dunk in the fourth quarter that got the fans to their feet.

The post Wiggins, Vaughan Voyageur’s showed why they are still Ontario’s best and quite frankly, possibly the best team in Canada!
