2026 6’3 PG Kamai Samuels: Statement Season at Putnam Science Academy

Over the past 3 years, Kamai Samuels has established himself as one of the top Canadian prospects in the 2026 class. The 6’3 point guard out of Quebec is currently sharpening his game at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, a nationally respected prep program. With multiple Division I offers already in hand and momentum building, Samuels’ stock continues to trend upward.

Ever since he helped lead Team Canada to a Silver Medal at the 2023 U16 FIBA AmeriCup, he’s been on the radar of D1 coaches. After that tournament he would go on to pick up offers from Arizona State, Cal, Penn State, Mississippi State, Fordham, North Carolina A&T, Western Carolina, and Quinnipiac. Most recently, he’s also gained interest from various schools in the A10.

In 2024, he competed in NPH’s Canadian National Invitational Tournament with Drop-Off Elite. He would go on to win the Championship, and Finals MVP.

Then in 2025, Samuels competed on the EYBL circuit with UPLAY Canada, where he continued to show his two-way upside, leading the team in assists while looking like their top defender. Defensively, Samuels separates himself with elite physical tools and competitiveness. He owns a 6’8 wingspan, a physically developed frame, and combines strength, speed, and explosion to consistently disrupt opposing guards. His ability to apply ball pressure, fight through contact, and guard multiple positions makes him a valuable asset on that end of the floor, especially in today’s switch-heavy defensive schemes.

On offence, Samuels is at his best attacking downhill. He plays with purpose and aggression, using his strength and burst to get to the rim and finish through contact. He doesn’t shy away from physicality and consistently puts pressure on defences by collapsing the paint. Beyond his scoring, Samuels shows strong poise as a lead guard. He is a high-level decision-maker who understands tempo, reads coverages well, and can orchestrate an offence effectively.

As his recruitment continues to develop, Kamai Samuels is firmly positioning himself as a name college programs across the U.S. and Canada need to track closely in the 2026 cycle.
