Western Canada NPA Session Standouts

This past weekend, the NPA hosted a session in beautiful Calgary, Alberta at Edge School. It was a mix of Ontario programs and Alberta programs. We got a chance to see Edge, Ridley College, King Heights Academy, and Western Canada Prep. The match ups were elite, and the players showed out.

Edge swept the session, going a perfect 3-0 while taking care of home court advantage. As the Reigning NPA Finalists, they showcased their depth, and are on a mission to not only get back to the Championship, but bring it home to Calgary, Alberta. They might just have the deepest team in the country.

Ridley College and King Heights Academy battled it out in an epic showdown between two of the top 2026 PGs Yousaf Ahmad and Caleb Roberts. Ridley would ultimately come out on top, with Caleb Roberts posting a near triple-double 22 points, 9 assists, 8 rebounds. Yousaf Ahmad finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists.

Edmonton was well represented, with WCPA leaving it all on the floor. Despite being riddled with injuries they put up a fight in each of their games, especially 2027 G Zayne Hinkson who displayed his elite scoring prowess and shotcreation ability. With a team full of mostly 2027s, there is no doubt they will compete with anyone in the country by next year. Especially with the return of 6’8 Athian Madut, a top prospect in his class.

Standouts:

Edge

2026 6’3 G Malachi Richmond
-Eastern Washington commit, and the leader of this Edge team continues to elevate his game. You can tell he has one thing on his mind this year, and that’s to get back to the finals and win a National Championship. So elite at getting to his spots, and is a true 5-level scorer (3pt, midrange, inside, post-up, isolation). Alpha mindset and is composed at all times. First player on the floor warming up type of guy.

2027 6’1 G Zach Hawley
-Major standout for Edge. Was extremely impressed with Hawley’s toughness and skill level. Strong frame, extremely tight handle, and knockdown shooting ability. Basically does everything a coach would ask for from the PG position. Maintained a consistent level throughout the whole weekend both in production and effort level.

2026 6’7 W Kian Tyson
-Impressive tools as a two-way wing. Shoots it well, can put the ball on the floor, finish at the rim, and defend multiple positions with his length. Has had multiple big scoring games this season with the ability to heat up in a hurry from outside, which is pretty lethal as a 6’7 Wing. High upside prospect.

2027 6’3 G Lemar Shir
-Started off the session with a statement, knocking down 4 threes in the first quarter of the first game of the session. Crafty PG with an elite skillset. Good shooting and playmaking ability. Competes on the defensive end. Puts in the work and is making constant strides in his game.

King Heights Academy

2026 6’7 G Yousaf Ahmad
-Flipped the switch in real time this past session. He’s already established himself as an oversized PG with strong playmaking feel, but he’s also a gifted scorer when he wants to be. Can beat his man off the bounce at will, and is excellent at making the right read off a live dribble. When defences start to anticipate his next move, he has the ability to either create his own shot instead, or rise up with his high-set jumper. Defences must pick their poison when guarding him. At this point playing against doubles is regular for him, whether it’s getting blitzed on the ball screen or seeing a second, sometimes third defender when he gets inside or posts up. It’s going to get scary when he continues to improve at reading and picking apart defences.

2027 6’6 W Victor Owie
-High motor wing with elite vertical pop and explosiveness. Once he gets to the rim, he’s able to finish thru contact with great body control and touch. Absolutely lethal in transition. Putting it all together from a decision making and skill standpoint, but has very intriguing upside.

2026 5’11 G Andre Thompson
-Type of player you hate playing against, but love to play with. Guards the ball extremely hard and doesn’t mind doing the dirty work. Diving for loose balls, picking up full-court, and doing whatever it takes to make opposing guards uncomfortable. Reliable 3pt shooter and can get downhill with aggression. Winning player.

2026 6’6 W Nicolas Logan
-Didn’t have his best offensive session, but was elite as a point of attack defender. Active defender with length and anticipation. Has the tools to guard the other teams best player and looked good in that role. When his 3pt shot is falling he’s a great 3&D piece.

Ridley College

2026 6’0 G Caleb Roberts
-Posted a near triple-double in back to back games. Has been a top performer in the NPA for 3 straight seasons and nothing’s changed. Threat from 3pt range and is a much improved playmaker. Was making heads up reads and on the mark passes. Helped lead a second half comeback against King Heights by taking over with his scoring. Type of player that always finds a way, extremely determined.

2026 6’5 G Quinten Ethier
-As always, his knockdown 3pt shooting was on display and was even extending his range a few feet past the 3pt arc. Very impressed with his polished post-game, loves getting to that mid-post area and using his body to create space. Professional approach to the game. From his off the floor preparation to his high IQ and unselfish play.

2026 6’6 F Demir Oztoprak
-Breakout session for the Forward from Cyprus. Was active inside adding a well-needed scoring punch with Ridley’s starting big Callum Smith out. Got after it on the offensive glass making multiple effort plays and creating second chance opportunities.

2027 6’1 G CJ Roberts
-The engine that never turns off. CJ could score 0 points and still have a massive impact on winning with his constant motor and out of this world athleticism. Can guard the other teams best player, protect the rim, crash the glass, and get out in the open floor and play above the rim. Nothing phases him.

WCPA

2027 5’10 G Zayne Hinkson
-Shouldered a lot of the offensive load for his team as they dealt with injuries. Crafty guard who can create anything he wants off the dribble. Tough shot maker who can score with the best of them. Didn’t back down one bit. Opened up with a 31pt 7stl game. Will cause terror for defences all season long, especially as his team returns to full power.

2027 6’5 G Miles Herbert
-Interesting combination of size and skill. Lefty with good guard skills and a shot you have to respect. You could see the flashes of his potential, and with one year left he’s sure to continue to trend upwards.

2026 6’7 F Clarence Suter
-Reliable inside/outside threat. Plays with toughness and IQ. Can space the floor or bang down low. College ready frame. Was one of WCPA’s more consistent performers.

2026 6’3 G Rohan Dhanoa
-Played limited minutes due to injury, but showed flashes of his lethal 3pt shooting and polished scoring game. Can get a shot off at will with a quick trigger. Everything in his arsenal from pullup jumpers to floaters. Speaks volumes to his compete level if he tried to play thru an injury before eventually being shut down.
