2023-2024 NPA Team Previews: Winnipeg’s Northstar

Returning to the NPA are Northstar Prep out of Winnipeg, a program brought to life in 2017 to provide further opportunities for student-athletes in the Manitoba region.

Coached by Daron Leonard, no stranger to housing & developing high level basketball talent not only from Winnipeg, but across Canada.

“7th year program based out of Winnipeg. After this season, we will have helped 52 athletes move on to the next level. We expect that the growth of the local talent over the past several years will result in this being the strongest class in the history of our program.” Daron’s sentiments on the community impact the program’s made through basketball are authentic and true.

This year they’ve got an interesting squad with a mix of 2024s, 2025s, and 2026s. Two prospects that stand out for me are 2024 6’8 W Shadrak Lasu & 2024 6’0 PG Waris Njoya. Looking forward to seeing how these two talents compete against some of the top competition in Canada.
