HAMILTON, ON–Rumors that you’ve been hearing about Andrew Wiggins & Huntington Prep coming back to Canada are all true. This will be the final time that Wiggins and Xavier Rathan-Mayes will play on Canadian soil in a high school jersey as they take on ULA February 17 @ McMaster. Wiggins has yet to decide on which NCAA program he will play for next year, however is projected to be the #1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft!
Other Canadians on the team include top prospect Montaque Gil-Caesar & Nevell Provo.
Who will Huntington be facing?
United Leadership Academy (ULA), a new program based out of Hamilton composed of top level talent from the surrounding region will compete against H-Prep in a highly anticipated contest.
ULA Head Coach Dwayne Washington speaks on the purpose of this game.
“To allow basketball fans the opportunity to see Canada’s finest amateur basketball player one last time on Canadian soil before he goes to college and subsequently the N.B.A,” he said referring to Andrew Wiggins.
In light of the Public School “Work To Rule” that has been disastrous to thousands of student-athletes, ULA has risen to provide an opportunity for elite student-athletes to compete. Washington, who is also the Head Coach at MacNab Secondary has been directly effected by the strike along with his previously NPH #3-Ranked High School team.
As a result?
“We want to provide some of the best boys high school basketball players in the region additional comprehensive basketball development, exposure and elite competition. As part of the development, it includes competition; we offer a 15-20 game exhibition schedule competing against many of the best teams and players throughout North America,” said Washington.
“We are not a rep, prep, high school team or AAU. We are a development academy for some of the leaders of tomorrow.”
Huntington visited MacNab last year in Hamilton, defeating a young group in a blow out. However, top-ranked Canadian prospects players Francis Kiapway, Matt Trpcic, Nick Burke and Nolan Narain are now one year wiser and ready for the challenge.
Although the Huntington Prep roster boasts some serious fire power, ULA is no slouch as they have the size, discipline and leadership at the point.
Note: Huntington will be without Moses Kingley & Dominic Woodson
It will be a packed house in Hamilton at McMaster University to catch Andrew Wiggins & Huntington compete against ULA…don’t miss out!
