Caribana Classic Day 1
TORONTO,ON–The much anticipated CIA BOUNCE Caribana Classic surely did not disappoint as day one featured a variety of NCAA programs from High, mid, to low major schools. Schools such as UCONN (Jim Calhoun in attendance!), Michigan, Kentucky, Rice, Santa Clara, Bucknell, Baylor, Wake Forest, Michigan State and several others swarmed the Hoop Dome in Toronto, Ontario to catch a glimpse of some of Ontario’s finest.
At this point, I have had the opportunity to witness most of the cream of the crop that the province has to offer such as Anthony Bennett, Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Andrew Wiggins, to name a few. However, my main aspiration for events such as these is to find the “the new guys in town” or “the sleepers” that have yet to earn their stripes. I am looking to hunt down the underdogs and the top prospects that you’ve never heard of. Day one surely did not disappoint yet I will be back for more on day two!
The following are a few prospects that you may not yet be familiar with, some more talked about than others:
UNDER THE RADAR – Kamar Akoto [2012] – One of the quickest guards that I have seen, sometimes a little too quick for his own good. Okoto immediately caught my attention with his playmaking abilities, both for himself and teammates! Keep this unknown prospect on your radar folks! He won’t be under the radar for much longer.
–Isaiah Watkins [2014] – Will be attending St. Benedicts, one of the top prep programs in America in the upcoming season. Watkins is simply put, a BEAST! He had high-major programs loving his upside. Length, athleticism, determination, respect all wrapped up into one package.
–Cody John [2015] A young rising star that earned the attention of the NCAA yesterday, currently with Michigan on the radar.
–Nevell Provo [2015] An offensive minded lead guard that must look to be more of a playmaker. He has all the tools to do so, look forward to seeing more of him today!
–Elijah Long [2015] Super skilled guard that lacks size at the moment. Makes up for it with heart. The younger brother of 2012 STUD, Naz Long. A growth spurt is scheduled to occur within the next couplle years, and when it comes, Elijah will be a terror.
There are several more prospects to add to this list which NPH will reveal within the next few days. Stay tuned for NPH player evaluations.
